Curator’s statement
In May 2023, my partner and I spent 48-hours in the fairytale city of Praha (Prague!) and enjoyed a delightful tour with Jan Friedman from Prague City Adventures. From exploring the colorful, cobblestone streets to the grand Prague Castle and dining on local dishes, the experience imprinted a love for the city and its people in me. Needless to say, I’ll be back!

The day started off at 8am sharp in front of Hybernia Theatre, a renowned musical theatre built in the Empire style and located in the historic heart of Prague. From there, Jan took us down the cobblestone side streets. It was early enough that no crowds had yet gathered and we were able to enjoy the art deco architecture made famous after the 1930’s.
We entered the historic center, which is just as grand as you can imagine. A gorgeous square surrounded by cathedrals and brightly colored buildings leading to the famous Astronomical Clock! I had always wanted to see this clock, but had no idea about the short show it puts on every hour from 9am until 11pm – with aspects of the clock shifting around and small figures appearing in its windows. The earlier you can get there the better! It was only almost 10am when we arrived and a large crowd had already gathered in front of it.
As we made our way further into the city, we stopped in front of the Jewish Museum which stands as a site of remembrance and history of the Jewish Czech people during and after World War II. There we learned the story of Nicholas Winton, a British man who saved 669 Czech children during the war by bringing them to safety in Great Britain.
After an emotional moment of silence in front of the Museum, we took a short tram ride up to Prague Castle, built in the 9th century and which now houses the Czech President. Prior, the castle was a seat of power for kings of Bohemia and Holy Roman emperors. The medieval castle stands on a hill overlooking historic Prague.
After entering the castle grounds, we were lucky enough that the line to enter the historic St. Vitus Cathedral was moving quickly. Upon entering we were greeted by the stunning gothic architecture which took over 600 years to finally be completed! In fact, and a fun fact, in order to complete some of the stained glass windows that decorate the cathedral, the city sold the windows to local companies that now have their ads stamped into the windows! It was pretty incredible to be taking in the grandeur of the cathedral only to then realize the Czech I was attempting to decipher on a window was in fact an ad for a local bank!
After trapezing around the castle grounds, it was finally lunch time. Jan took us to a well-known local spot for a traditional Czech lunch: roast pork, sauerkraut, and dumplings – and it was delicious! We topped lunch off with a Pilsner beer, which originated in the Czech Republic and also tastes much better than what we get state-side.
After lunch we made our way to the Charles Bridge for some last-minute photos before hopping on a boat tour around the Vltava river to end our guided tour.
I highly recommend booking a tour with Prague City Adventures during your trip to Prague! We learned so much about the city’s history and culture and discovered several sites and landmarks that we likely wouldn’t have found on our own. Ready to book your Prague adventure?
