SingleThread Inn: Sonoma at its Finest
Curator’s statement

In March of 2025, I celebrated my 40th birthday by scratching an item off the top of my bucket list: Dining at the three-Michelin-starred SingleThread. Thanks to the world-class hospitality team at Singlethread Inn, what was at first meant to be a three-hour fine dining experience turned into an unforgettable weekend. I would recommend staying here to any of my clients who are delighted by the meticulous attention to detail. If your love language is acts of service, you’re going to want to read on.

Our first course at dinner

If like me, you’ve enjoyed watching Hulu’s The Bear, you’ve probably heard of the three Michelin-starred SingleThread. This fine-dining restaurant effortlessly blends Japanese-style cuisine with their farm-to-table California produce. It’s a must-indulge for any serious foodie visiting the West Coast.

But booking dinner here can be challenging. Reservations open up one month in advance, and they can vanish at lightning speed. So if you’re planning a trip a few months out where you’ll need flights, accommodations and time off work, you really need to work with someone in the know. Hot tip: Did you know SingleThread is also an inn with only five rooms? These reservations open 90 days in advance, guarantee a dinner reservation on a day of your choosing at the restaurant and come with extra perks when you book through a travel advisor!

SingleThread is known for their high-quality, curated touches and their ability to cater to anyone and everyone. Finding myself allergic to dairy and eggs shortly after my 30th birthday, I thought my fine dining experience was all behind me. But a few years ago, my husband sent me an article about SingleThread that assured me that they would welcome my dietary restrictions — in fact, they relish creating dishes that celebrate the ingredients that I can eat instead of leaving me sad about missing out on the ones I can’t.

In short: they aim to please, to comfort, to thrill. And let me tell you: They do not miss. I’m not going to go into too much detail about the divine deliciousness that was dinner because I am not a food writer, and honestly the experience was beyond words. But I will tell you this: our three diners had four allergies / sensitivities among us, and there was no room to feel like any of us missed out. There was also no room in our waistlines, but that was expected.

I could wax poetic on our overnight stay for at least ten pages, but instead, let me share a few highlights. We were greeted and shown to our room, which was filled with beautiful ikebana flower arrangements, specially crafted onigiri and an astounding white chocolate birthday cake that was specially made vegan for me because of my dietary restrictions.

In-room breakfast

Non alcoholic beverage pairings are available and delicious

Every detail in the room: the remote-controlled fireplace, the fine leather lounge chairs, the plush linens, the fresh lighting design and high ceilings give a feel of luxe comfort in an elevated country style with a Japanese flair. SingleThread is not a Japanese property, rather a property that was developed and curated by a couple who have been deeply inspired by their time in Japan, Japanese culture, design, convenience, aesthetics and of course — flavors.

Everything you can think of (and many things you haven’t thought of) is provided for you, complimentary. A non-exhaustive list: Local wine, beer, soda and snacks — locally made skin care products, candles, bath salts — high-quality hygiene products — a Toto toilet with bidet — room service snacks on request and a breakfast to die for.

Welcome amenities

The inn offered us the option of test-driving an electric Audi during our stay — free of charge! And they provided a curated list of scenic routes for us to see the best of Sonoma Valley.

I must repeat myself only to emphasize the quality of the breakfast, which you have a choice of in-room dining, or you may dine in the study just down the hall. Breakfast at SingleThread is nothing short of life-changing. I’m not going to go into too much detail (because: spoilers) but I would encourage you to order everything on the menu during your stay because every dish is a winner in its own right.

Need to know

I recommend staying at SingleThread to my clients who have a healthy budget and would relish being treated like they are the personal guests of a legendary host on the level of Martha Stewart. It is perfect for a romantic getaway to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries or any occasion.
