Puerto-Rico Wedding
Curator’s statement

I hold Puerto Rico near and dear to my heart. I got married to my beautiful wife in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in April of 2017. The experience was exactly what we wanted for a destination wedding. Easily accessible for our family members, a tropical island with unbeatable weather, a destination with endless food opportunities. We had looked at destinations including the Caribbean and Mexico, but we chose Puerto Rico because it didn't require a passport, currency exchange, and upgrade to cell phone plans, all the hassles that are part of planning a trip to another country. Your friends will thank you for that. Best of all is if you wanted to visit other places in the Caribbean, it would be a short hop, making it easy to plan a honeymoon. You can, of course, stay in Puerto Rico for your honeymoon as it offers a lot of options too. These are six easy steps to planning a wedding in Puerto Rico.

Things to do in Puerto Rico

Candado Vanderbilt Views

Find the Venue

You can choose your own backdrop. A hotel with ocean views, a beach, a rainforest, or the countryside. It’s all there. We chose an oceanfront hotel, specifically the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel. If iconic luxury is your style, then the Condado Vanderbilt is for you. The Condado Vanderbilt is a luxury hotel with multiple venues and wedding setting options, both indoors and outdoors. The food at the hotel is also exceptional; we knew what to expect. After staying at the hotel previously, we knew our friends and family would enjoy the location. The location is in the middle of the tourist section of San Juan, which is easily accessible to nightlife, food, casinos, and golf. A short car ride will take you on excursions. There is plenty to do from there.

Team up with Local Experts

After we talked to the wedding manager at the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel, they provided us with a list of wedding coordinators and vendors that work with the hotel. Once you narrow down your wedding coordinator, they can take over and guide you through everything. Think of them as your project manager for your wedding. We chose a wedding coordinator that understood our needs. From there it begins a chain reaction of choosing a baker for the wedding cake, photographer, videographer, DJ, an officiant, and more! Let the experts do the work.

Getting there

There are over 120+ daily nonstop flights from the United States to Puerto Rico. It is easily accessible from all over the world, which makes it a perfect destination for a story-book destination marriage. San Juan Airport (SJU) is the most convenient airport to fly into.

Decide on where to Honeymoon

There is plenty of romance to go around in Puerto Rico. You just have to decide where to spend your Honeymoon. There are a number of options outside San Juan; it depends on what you want. If you want luxury and intimacy, check out the Dorado Beach Resort - A Ritz Carlton Reserve property, with a beach setting, private residences, and a spa sanctuary. If you want to be surrounded by a national forest with ocean views, check out the St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort. If you want a secluded island, check out Vieques and El Blok Hotel. With only 30 guest rooms, it is designed to be a couples getaway. There are endless possibilities and plenty of options. In the end, we decided we wanted to see more of the Caribbean, so we decided to have our honeymoon in Anguilla at the Four Seasons Anguilla. Again, plenty of options where you make Puerto Rico your central hub.

Say I do.

Need I say more?

Like our guests, your guests will thank you for bringing them to Puerto Rico. Even though they came for our wedding, it was a vacation for them, which is exactly what we wanted. Everyone was free to explore the island, some went snorkeling, some played golf, and we couldn't stop hearing about the food and what people ate.

Places to eat & drink in Puerto Rico

Snorkeling in Puerto Rico

Marmalade - I've been here three times and this is where we had our rehearsal dinner. Since it was a small wedding, we invited everyone. One of the best restaurants in Puerto Rico, in my opinion.

1919 Restaurant - Located in the Condado Vanderbilt, a tasting menu with local ingredients. Fine dining at its best.

Concina Abierta - A mixture of foods from different cultures. From Caribbean to Mediterranean and beyond.

La Casita Blanca - If you want traditional Puerto Rican food, this is the place.

La Factoria - Named best bar in the Caribbean in 2023 by The World's 50 Best Bars. The cocktails are absolutely amazing here.

Kabanas - A casual restaurant that serves the best tacos. Stop in on Taco Tuesday for $2 tacos.
