Curator’s statement
The Viceroy Bali sits right on the edge of a ravine in Ubud's Valley of the Kings, and trust me, the views don't disappoint. Every villa looks out over the lush river valley, which is exactly what you want when staying in Ubud. The resort strikes a perfect balance between tranquil seclusion and convenience, offering serene escape from Ubud's bustling center while remaining close enough for effortless exploration of the area's cultural attractions. For those seeking the ultimate arrival experience, the property features its own helipad. However, the scenic drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport is an experience, winding through picturesque Balinese villages and emerald rice terraces.

Vibe and crowd
The Viceroy Bali seamlessly blends exclusive luxury with warm hospitality. The atmosphere is sophisticated yet unpretentious, attracting a discerning clientele of couples and small groups seeking privacy and refinement. Despite its five-star status, the resort maintains an intimate feel, with guests often found lounging by their private pools or enjoying quiet moments in the property's serene common areas. The crowd typically consists of luxury travelers, honeymooners and wellness enthusiasts who appreciate the perfect blend of Balinese tradition with modern comfort.

Rooms
My spacious villa suite offered a comfortable and well-designed luxury Balinese experience. The layout effectively connected indoor and outdoor living spaces, featuring a private terrace and infinity pool overlooking the river valley. Large windows provided excellent views while ensuring privacy. The interior combined traditional Balinese design elements with modern amenities, using quality materials like local woods and marble throughout. I really loved the private pool — it was the perfect spot to relax while taking in the stunning valley views. Whether I was enjoying a morning swim or just lounging on the terrace with a book, having that private outdoor space made the whole experience feel special without being excessive.

Food
The dining experience at Viceroy Bali offers multiple venues, each with its own distinct character. I particularly loved breakfast at CasCades restaurant, which is served overlooking the valley and offers an impressive selection of both sweet and savory options to start the day. From freshly baked pastries and tropical fruits to made-to-order eggs and local Balinese specialties, the morning spread catered to every possible preference.
For dinner, the resort's fine dining establishment, Apéritif, provides an exceptional culinary journey. I was fortunate to visit during a special culinary event featuring a guest chef from Japan, which added an exciting dimension to the dining experience. Next to Apéritif is the stylish Pinstripe Bar, where I enjoyed expertly crafted cocktails in a sophisticated atmosphere.

Amenities
The resort's facilities cater comprehensively to guests' wellness and leisure needs. The well-equipped gym features modern cardio and weight training equipment, while the unexpected addition of a squash court provides an excellent option for more dynamic exercise. The spa facility deserves special mention, offering traditional Balinese treatments in a tranquil setting that promotes deep relaxation. The staff across all facilities demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and genuine warmth, anticipating guests' needs before they arise.

Sustainability
While focusing on providing a luxury experience, the Viceroy Bali shows commitment to environmental stewardship through its design and operations. The resort's architecture works harmoniously with the natural landscape, minimizing its impact on the surrounding ecosystem. The property employs local staff and sources many ingredients from nearby farms, supporting the local community while reducing transportation impact. However, there's room for more visible sustainability initiatives, such as eliminating single-use plastics and implementing more comprehensive recycling programs.
