The Boat Company was founded in the late 1970s and is a reputable eco-tourism outfit that offers small boat trips throughout the summer months of Southeast Alaska’s temperate rainforest – the Inside Passage. Each Boat Company trip is unique to the next - the itinerary is curated based on guests’ personal interests and planned together daily by the crew and guests. Departure and arrival dates are the only part of the itinerary that is fixed.
These trips would be great for guests of all ages and activity levels. Their typical clientele are families or groups of friends, reunions, corporate retreats, etc. They can easily cater to travelers who are interested in conservation and wildlife issues, as well as travelers who are avid fishermen, hikers or photographers. Clients rave about the experience and love that they get a complete experience tailored to their interests, which is unique compared to some of the other cruise options in the area.
The boats typically cruise for a few hours a day before anchoring and starting daily activities. Activities include fishing, kayaking, hiking, whale and other wildlife watching, glacier viewing, among more, all of which can be tailored to the activity level of the guest. Here is a sample itinerary as well as a map of where the boats typically cruise. One of the coolest things to me is that they will clean, filet, freeze, and pack any fish you catch in an easy-to-carry insulated bag that you can fly home with - at no additional cost.
There are two vessels in the Boat Company fleet; the 20-passenger LISERON (a refitted, wooden-hulled, 1950’s minesweeper) and the 24-passenger MIST COVE (a contemporary replica of the LISERON). All cabins have ensuite bath. Additionally all meals and snacks are included and prepared fresh daily by an on-board chef. Open bar is included as well, and includes top shelf brands.
The Boat Company prides itself on the small guest number so the trips maintain
intimacy and variety, with one crew member for every two passengers. They believe this really sets them apart from other vendors out there. Additionally, the crew has a wide range of expertise i.e., naturalists, fishing guides, gifted storytellers etc. to enhance everyone’s adventure and they all maintain a commitment to conserving and preserving the great wild.
