4-Day Girl's Trip to Marrakech
Curator’s statement

La Mamounia is ideal for those who cherish privacy and unparalleled hospitality. The spa offers the perfect retreat. Be sure to experience a traditional Hammam, where African black soap and jasmine-infused Argan oil rejuvenate your skin after a day in the sun. With an array of exquisite dining options, you could easily spend your entire stay in this oasis. Yet, the allure of exploring the treasures hidden within the walled city will undoubtedly tempt you to venture beyond its gates.

Where to stay

Marrakech is a vibrant blend of modernity and tradition, offering a tourist-friendly atmosphere while staying true to its cultural roots. Visitors should be mindful of the city's conservative values — covering shoulders and knees is advised. The hospitality of the locals is unparalleled, making every encounter warm and welcoming.

The best time to visit is between November and April, when the weather is pleasant — summers can be intensely hot. As you navigate the Medina, stay alert to avoid the lively traffic of mopeds and donkey carts. The energy is chaotic in the most exhilarating and authentic way.

Need to know

Restaurants to try:

Kabana Rooftop Food and Cocktails: Perfect for a dinner that effortlessly transitions into a night out. Enjoy panoramic views of the city and the illuminated mosque, creating a magical backdrop. Don’t miss the ceviche and truffle fries.

Safran: Another rooftop gem, offering Moroccan cuisine with a modern twist. Enjoy a lively evening with belly dancers and musicians adding to the atmosphere.

Coffee Houmti: A hidden treasure! Keep an eye out, as this cozy café is tiny and easy to miss. The owner pulls some of the best espresso shots, served in an enchanting setting. Don’t forget to bring cash.

Must-visit:

Jardin Majorelle: A must-see. Purchase tickets online in advance and aim to be part of the first group to avoid the heat and crowds. Afterward, visit the YSL Museum. A stunning experience that could leave fashion lovers in awe.

Essential experiences:

Explore the Souks: Bartering is customary and part of the fun. Approach it respectfully. I set out to find a rug and managed to snag one that fit in my suitcase! Walking through the souks with bags full of spices, beauty products and leather goods, one local remarked, “You look like a local.” If only!

City Walking Tour: Start your trip with a walking tour on your first morning. It’s the best way to learn about the city’s history and get your bearings.

Hammam Experience: Treat yourself to a traditional hammam. You won’t regret it!

Hot Air Balloon at Sunrise: Soar over the Atlas Mountains for a breathtaking experience you’ll never forget.

Safety tip:

I felt safe walking alone during the day, but at night, I recommend that women walk in groups. As always, there’s safety in numbers, no matter where you are.
