Hotel Valley Ho is a great starting point for your Scottsdale to Tucson trip. This hotel offers a prime location to Old Town for access to shopping, activities and a great food scene. Start your day by stopping by the Herb Box for brunch before heading out on 5th Avenue to explore the eclectic mix of boutiques, art galleries and artisan shops. After a day filled with shopping, Olive and Ivy offers upscale Mediterranean fare perfect for dinner. If you are looking for nightlife, Scottsdale has plenty to offer. Bottled Blonde, Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row and Riot House are among the most popular late-night spots.
Once you’ve explored Scottsdale, it’s time to embark on your journey to Tucson which will take just under two hours. Route 79 will offer the most scenic drive. Your first stop will be at Casa Grande Ruins to learn about the Ancestral Sonoran Desert People’s community. It’s the largest pre-historic structure on the continent and free to enter. Take a guided tour with a docent who is an expert in this important history. Next stop will be Claire’s Café & Art Gallery for lunch. This hidden gem offers homestyle comfort food and showcases local art for sale.
Now you’ve arrived in Tucson where you will stay at The Ritz Carlton, Dove Mountain that offers views of the Tortolita Mountains in the Sonoran Desert. My favorite highlights in Tucson include visiting the Sonoran Desert Museum, hiking the trails at Sabino Canyon and dinner and a show at Gaslight Theater. You can’t go to Tucson without trying a Sonoran Hot Dog at El Guero Canelo! Other local food spots that I would recommend include Aqui Con El Nene, El Taco Rustico and Tito and Pep.
As your road trip from Scottsdale to Tucson comes to an end, take a moment to appreciate the good eats, history, shopping and beauty this trip offered!
