Weekend at Thompson Denver
Curator’s statement

I am a huge fan of Thompson Hotels, a Hyatt brand. The properties are new, sleek, and have a sophisticated vibe. This is the second Thompson property I’ve stayed at and still blown away by the incredible service and attention to detail.

I planned to have a quick, summer getaway with my husband and knew I wanted to travel to a destination we could grab a nonstop flight from Charleston. It happened to be Denver, Colorado! We have friends there, so I thought it would be the perfect weekend trip to get away for a weekend.

After a great experience at Thompson Savannah with my mom, I wanted to see how my husband would enjoy a Thompson property. We both loved it! The hotel is located in the LoDo neighborhood of Downtown Denver, near Union Station and Larimer Square. Very walkable with lots of shops, restaurants, and things to do in the area. Right now there is construction going on in the area (right near the hotel), but I was not disturbed by noise.

Details of our stay

Check-in was smooth and easy. After leaving our car with the valet (no self-parking at this property, but there is a garage in walking distance), we were greeted with sparkling wine, a personalized welcome letter to list out all the amenities, and checked in within five minutes.

As a Hyatt Privé property, I was able to secure our upgrade to a City View King room right after booking. The room, like the rest of the hotel, had the Thompson signature scent lingering throughout. A welcome amenity of macarons (my favorite!) and wine were a wonderful touch.

A wonderful welcome amenity from the hotel.

The amenities provided through our booking meant I didn’t have to spend a dime on property! We received complimentary breakfast each morning at Chez Maggy (the Denver omelet and french toast were our faves) and had a $175 property credit (normally $100, but an additional $75 from a combinable Hyatt summer promotion) that we used at Chez Maggy for dinner. Our server, Birch, treated us to complimentary sparkling wine to celebrate our vacation and made amazing recommendations. I did not have bison tartare on my bingo card for this trip, but it was so delicious that we ordered it again the next night.

Dinner at Chez Maggy - the coq au vin was fantastic!

Hotel and resort destination fees can be a drag, but Thompson Denver had some very cool inclusions that really bring value to the fee. Some of the extras include:

  • Complimentary bubbles & dessert each afternoon in the lobby

  • Onsite access to Thule strollers & go packs

  • One drink per person at Milk Tea People, a matcha & milk tea bar

  • Day passes to the Denver Zoo (upon availability)

  • 10-20% off discounts at nearby restaurants & shops

Complimentary matcha drinks from Milk Tea People, included with hotel destination fee.

On the 6th floor of Thompson Denver is Reynard Social, the hotel’s lounge. From Ladies Night on Thursdays to R&B Night on Saturday, it’s a popular spot for hotel guests and locals to hang out, grab a drink and tapas, and enjoy the Mile High City views.

During my stay, I also got to tour the largest suite, the Thompson Suite. Though it only sleeps two, this 1,032 sq. ft. room is perfect for entertaining. An expansive outdoor terrace includes seating for eight and inside there’s a separate living and dining area. The suite does not have a connecting option, but there is a guest room across the hall that can be booked along with the Thompson Suite.

Plenty of seating available in the living area of the Thompson Suite.

A few honorable mentions for our trip: craft pizza and beer at Black Shirt Brewing Co. We had an incredible pizza and a beer that even I liked during my last visit! We visited again this time and had two beer flights and the “War Pig” pizza - still delicious and worth a try if you’re in the Denver area! Less than 3 miles from Thompson Denver, so it’s a short ride. Go visit Jimmy & Karen or Matt behind the bar & let them know that Brittany sent you 🙂

Obsessed with this pizza at Black Shirt Brewing.

And just a short walk from the hotel you’ll find the Denver Milk Market - a food hall with 10 different eateries.
