Girl's Weekend Getaway to SLS Baha Mar
Curator’s statement

In April 2024, I stayed at the SLS Baha Mar for a long weekend getaway. SLS Baha Mar is an excellent choice for those looking to balance relaxing days in the sun with exciting nightlife. Ideal for group and multi-generational travel, I’d recommend the SLS Baha Mar to anyone needing to please a large group - think bachelor / bachelorette parties and even family getaways. The SLS has something for everyone, no matter their age or interest, and is tastefully decorated with minimalist island decor.

The property is located only a ten-minute drive from the airport, so you can get to your vacation quicker than many other properties on the island.

The SLS Baha Mar has 299 rooms and suites. The suites have been recently renovated and are an ideal choice for larger parties needing common space. I personally stayed in an Ocean View Superior King room, which had plenty of space for two travelers. I only wish the balcony was larger and furnished with enough room to relax and enjoy the view. It’s definitely worth upgrading to the next room category for that alone!

The SLS is set within the expansive Baha Mar property, which consists of three hotels – the SLS, the Grand Hyatt and the Rosewood, with a combined 11 pools, a water park, casino, upmarket shopping as well as over 40 restaurants and bars to choose from. I opted to stay at the SLS, but found that I was longing for a bit more exclusive access to SLS-only amenities. For example, the SLS pool was open to all guests, whereas the Rosewood pool and beach are exclusive to Rosewood guests only. However, there are over 11 pools and hundreds of yards of white sandy beach, so we were able to find a slice of paradise to enjoy - it just took a little searching!

While at Baha Mar, I dined at five different restaurants on the property. My favorite by far was Shuang Ba, the Chinese restaurant. The Manor bar, located within the Rosewood was my favorite place to begin and end the night, with live music and a lively atmosphere Thursday-Sunday and service and staff that provide 10/10 service, 7 days a week. The Sky Bar located on the top floor of the SLS was also a highlight. It gets more lively after 10:30pm on weekends, and children are allowed until nine p.m.

During the day, you can choose to relax at one of the many pools or on the beach, or enjoy a healthy dose of thrill at the water park – well suited for both kids and adults. Pro tip – it can be difficult to secure a spot at the beach or at one of the pools during the high season, so plan to start your day early to get a prime spot where you can lounge (& nap!) from all day.

Need to know

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the SLS and would definitely return. Next time, I’m excited to stay at the Rosewood to experience more of the privacy and tranquility that property has to offer, with the option to enjoy all of the Baha Mar amenities available to guests at all three properties. Baha Mar is an excellent choice for a quick, warm weather getaway that will leave you wanting to come back and explore more!
