Located on the main land of Greece, Danai is about an hour flight from Athens into Thessaloniki and then another hour drive from the airport to the property. Danai is a resort property owned and operated by a family that is very much involved in the hotel's operations, day-to-day and soul. Many of their guests return every year for their summer vacations and stay for over a week. Some guests go back just to hang out with the staff! They truly make it feel like a home away from home.
The property has 56 rooms, all with completely different layouts perfect for any type of traveler or family (even families of 5!)
There is a kids club, horseback riding, a golf course nearby, tennis courts, yoga and pilates, private trainers and three restaurants (one that only seats five tables a night). There is a beautiful beach with cabanas that some guests will rent out for the entirety of their stay. There are water sports and activities. One activity is to go out night fishing and catch fish and octopus.
The best part about the property is the 3-bedroom yacht. Guests can rent it out for the day for a tour of the Mamma Mia islands or for a multiple-day excursion.
On the way to breakfast in the morning, your senses will be overwhelmed by the bakery that makes fresh pastries daily. The pasty chefs bake in the middle of the store and line up the warm pastries for guests to grab while they're still warm.
The design is classic, elegant, almost vintage European. It is not a modern or barefoot; it has more of a traditional feel.
Need to know
I can’t say enough good things about this property or the staff. It would be a great to pair with Mykonos, or other islands for travelers wanting to experience a different, authentic destination. Thessonoliki is the second-largest airport in Greece, so it’s easy to get to and pair with other European vacations. It’s also very green and lush with pine trees bordering the ocean, which is very different from the rugged / rocky terrain of southern Greece.
