Curator’s statement
I was able to visit all the Bunkhouse properties, including Hotel San Jose. This hotel is located on South Congress Street, one of the most sought-after locations for visitors to the city because of all the bars, restaurants and boutique shops lined along the street. The street is also only a short drive from downtown. It is a very lively area, and is best for travelers who want to be in the thick of it all.

The vibe is casual and attracts a younger crowd. It's pretty artsy, with typewriters and polaroid cameras for guests to borrow, and music being a large influence as well to give you that unique Austin vibe. This property would be great for a bachelorette party in Austin because of the 10/10 location and perfect room setup.
I live in Austin, and I believe this to be a year-round destination. The winters are mild with plenty of warm days for an escape from harsher climates. The summers do get pretty hot (triple digits is always a possibility, even starting in May), but it's actually my favorite season because of all the natural swimming holes to cool off in throughout the city. Barton Springs is one of the biggest/most popular swimming holes, which is conveniently located about two miles from Hotel San Jose.
Hotel San Jose was actually the first Bunkhouse hotel. It has 40 rooms with eight different categories. The three-bedroom, one-bathroom suite would be perfect for a girls' trip. Each room comes with their signature kimono bathrobes.
The hotel also has a small pool and a courtyard that many of the rooms look out onto. There is a secret garden event space that can be rented out for intimate weddings or family reunions.
The lounge in the courtyard serves light bites and drinks. The hotel is also home to Jo's Coffee, where you'll find one of the most Instagrammable murals in Austin.
