Curator’s statement
In July of 2023, I was diagnosed with celiac disease. Being someone who loves to travel and enjoy the many different aspects of food that ties into local culture, I thought traveling as I knew it was over. I was so wrong, and after spending the last year traveling and researching great places to travel if you are celiac or gluten intolerant, I am happy to share some of my personal findings and hope this will help you.

Countries and cities where traveling as celiac and gluten-intolerant are fantastic:
Australia: My absolute favorite country in the world and an area of travel that I specialize in. From major cities like Sydney and Melbourne to other smaller cities like Hobart and Brisbane, Australians are well-versed in celiac disease and almost all eating establishments are easily managed with gluten-free options. In fact, Sydney has some of the most fantastic Asian and Indian food in the world, and luckily the majority of that cuisine is gluten-free.
Germany: From Berlin to Munich and in-between, Germans also are well-versed in celiac disease and have plenty of options at most restaurants.
Italy: Surprisingly, Italy is very welcoming of celiac and gluten-intolerant visitors and many of the well-renowned bakeries and famed pasta spots are gluten-free. Try Milan, Venice, Rome and even some spots in Florence.
United Kingdom: While traveling in London this past Summer, I was pleasantly surprised about the detailed response and care restaurants take when it comes to Celiac Disease. In fact, each restaurant is required to have one individual certified for health reasons and will take your order specially to make sure nothing is cross-contaminated.
Singapore: Why wouldn’t such a foodie haven be known for its gluten-free options. Most Asian food is gluten-free, and the hawker centers throughout Singapore will help guide you on choosing gluten-free options.
United States: California, New York, Boston are all some of my top favorite places to travel to and also feel free to eat freely without worry.
Restaurants and cafés that I recommend from California to Australia and beyond:
San Diego, California: Gooseberries Kafe boasts a gluten-free-certified chef and amazing breakfast selections make this uptown San Diego face a must.
Sydney, Australia: Sake, sushi anyone? This amazing Japanese restaurant on the rocks is a gluten-free lovers paradise and I highly recommend it.
Berlin, Germany: Jute Backerie — who doesn't love a German bakery? Jute Backerie has been rated one of the top bakeries in Berlin and guess what, it's 100 percent gluten free!
London, UK area: Tandoor at the Chambers was voted as the “best Indian food in London.” After recently visiting this incredible establishment, I can attest most of their dishes are 100 percent gluten-free.
Singapore: Tianns, who doesn't love bakeries? This is my second bakery recommendation and it's in the food capital of South East Asia, Singapore. Tianns is 100 percent gluten-free and has been ranked as one of the best bakeries in the world.
