Borgo Santandrea: Chic, Luxury Retreat in Amalfi, Italy
Curator’s statement

I recently spent four glorious days on the Amalfi Coast and fell in love with Borgo Santandrea. This chic 5-star luxury resort is located just a few minutes outside the center of Amalfi. It looks out over the amazing Conca dei Marini bay, clinging to the side of the cliff and is situated between villas that welcomed Jackie Kennedy and Sofia Loren. The resort is perfect for guests to enjoy all that the Amalfi coast has to offer. It is also a peaceful escape from the busy tourist areas and activities in town.

Borgo Santandrea was recently awarded two Michelin keys and stands out as an extraordinary newcomer among the iconic hotels on the Amalfi coast. It opened in 2021 after a massive 4+ year renovation and comprises 52 rooms and suites, most with direct sea views. The design was inspired by renown Italian designer and architect, Gio Ponti. The concept is mid-century modern, but fresh and uniquely Mediterranean. The perfect mix of Moorish elements and arches with ceramic tiles and marble columns shows the history of the property and classic Italian craftsmanship. Every room is inside and outside and feels like you are floating between the sea and sky. The sea level is 300 feet below the street and there are 8 elevators on the property.

Borgo Sant'Andrea from the terrace boasts sweeping coastal views on a sunny day over crystal-clear waters.

Rooms:

The rooms are big and well-appointed, with new furniture and textures and colors that look like the nature seen from the large windows. Entry-level Classic and Superior rooms have lateral sea views, while Deluxe and higher-category rooms offer direct sea views. Nine suites have private patios with a plunge pool. There are connecting options available (note that children must be 8+ years old).

Amenities:

One of the best features of this incredible resort is the private beach. The beach club is picture-perfect and provides free beach loungers, umbrellas, canoes and stand-up paddle boards for hotel guests. There is also a new pool, fitness center, spa, sauna and free yoga offered in the garden daily. Private boat tours and water transfers can be planned to visit nearby towns. Guests can easily be picked up and dropped off at the hotel's private dock. The hotel also provides a complimentary shuttle into Amalfi’s center, a 5–8 minute drive.

Dining:

There are two bars and three delightfully different dining options on site. Breakfast is a highlight, set up as a market-style buffet in the open-plan kitchen area, with tables lining the picturesque terrace. Near sea level, there is a casual beach restaurant and bar, as well as Marinella restaurant, the more relaxed waterfront option, open for lunch and dinner. In addition, Michelin-starred fine-dining restaurant, Alici, serves regional classics with the finest local ingredients on a spectacular panoramic terrace.

Need to know

Borgo Santandrea is a heavenly haven, and the perfect base from which to enjoy the entire Amalfi Coast. It’s best suited for couples, adult group getaways, as well as families with older children and teens, who are looking for an exclusive luxury experience and many on-site amenities. The best times to visit are the shoulder seasons (May–June and September–October) when the weather is still nice but there are fewer tourists in the area. I’m happy to help plan an unforgettable trip to Borgo Santandrea and the Amalfi Coast!
