Curator’s statement
In early April 2024, I enjoyed spring skiing at AspenSnowmass and did more than 10 site inspections. While there are so many wonderful hotels in Aspen, only a handful are proper ski-in-out. The Little Nell is the only ski-in-out hotel at Ajax Mountain. Located at the base of the Silver Queen Gondola, the service is top-notch and the whole experience is luxurious. From spacious King Rooms with mountain views to residences with up to four-bedrooms, comfort is top priority. The Viceroy and Limelight are wonderful ski-in-out options at Snowmass and the Ritz-Carlton is perfect for ski-in-out access to Aspen Highlands.

My most recent Spring visit to AspenSnowmass was a smashing success. Spring conditions were in full effect. Gorgeous blue skies, perfect visibility - ideal conditions for picking up tips from the outstanding instructors at the resort. While I have been to Aspen many times, this was the perfect visit to tour more than 10 different hotels amongst the four mountains of AspenSnowmass. While there are so many wonderful places to stay in Aspen, four hotels stand out for the ski-in-out access to the mountains of Aspen.
Aspen takes convenience to a new level. Aspen’s Pitkin County Airport is just 10 minutes from town and nearly all of the hotels offer free transportation to and from the airport. Within the town, enjoy pedestrian access to an abundance of shops and delicious restaurants. However, there is nothing more convenient in the world of skiing than being able to casually walk out your door, strap on your gear, and start skiing. The Little Nell is the only true ski-in-out hotel in Aspen. This five-star property features the best-service around, luxurious amenities, stunning mountain views, spacious rooms and excellent dining options. Perfect for couples looking for the ultimate in luxury and convenience or multi-gen families and/or larger groups can enjoy the Little Nell’s unique residences, with up to four bedrooms. Ajax Tavern has slopeside seating for lunch and/or apres and don’t miss their legendary truffle fries.
Snowmass, just 20 minutes from Aspen, has more ski in out accommodations and can be a wonderful alternative to downtown Aspen, especially for families looking for more space. The Viceroy is a five-star in the heart of Snowmass Village. Snowmass is the largest of the four resorts and has an amazing ski school and children’s center. At the Viceroy, enjoy all of the luxuries of a full service resort with the conveniences of having a full kitchen, gas fireplace and spacious living and dining areas. Most rooms also have private terraces overlooking the slopes. The spa here is incredible too with 7,000 square feet, an outdoor heated pool and tubs, and a top-notch fitness center.
The LimeLight is a family-friendly ski-in-out property in Snowmass. In addition to its prime location, this hotel stands out for its relaxed atmosphere and contemporary design. The guest rooms are all spacious and they have residences with up to 3-bedrooms, full kitchens and private balconies. Parents and kids alike will love the most convenient access to ski school along with a kid’s game room. The Limelight and the Viceroy both are outstanding for conferences and larger groups.
For the adrenaline seekers that want the convenience of ski-in-out and enjoy luxurious accommodations, the Ritz-Carlton Club at Aspen Highlands is the perfect place to stay. From here, you will easily enjoy first tracks at Aspen Highlands, meanwhile you are just a short drive from the town of Aspen. This hotel features two and three bedroom residences with gourmet kitchens, spacious living areas with fireplaces, and private balconies with stunning mountain views. The Ritz at the Highlands has two heated outdoor pools, a full spa and great fitness facilities. The hotel also offers a complimentary shuttle service to the airport and to/from downtown Aspen.
Need to know
Aspen Snowmass has it all — four mountains within an eight-and-a-half-mile radius, a combined 5,300 acres of varied terrain, an outstanding dining scene, a happening après-ski scene, accommodations fit for celebrities, world-class instruction and it's easy to get around. The locals say come for the winter and stay for the summer. Aspen is truly a year-round destination. There are endless miles of trails for running and hiking. Hike to Lost Man Lake, and/or the majestic peaks of the Maroon Bells, check out a bluegrass festival, take a dip in Glenwood Springs. The dining and shopping scene is outstanding, too. Discover all of this and more in Avant Ski’s feature on Things to do in Aspen, Snowmass and beyond.
