Curator’s statement
I took a solo trip to Florence in the spring of 2024 and had the pleasure of staying at Casa G, a historic palazzo in the heart of the city that provided a peaceful respite after a day of exploring. I loved the chic yet eclectic decor, the well-stocked honesty bar and the daily homemade breakfast.

Walking into the grand palazzo that houses Casa G Firenze provided immediate comfort after a lengthy and exhausting day of travel. I had already checked in virtually and got into my room within minutes, where I was greeted by a small but welcoming space. As a solo traveler, I chose to book Casa G's 'Cosy' room, which was perfectly proportioned for a single person. I was initially nervous about the room's size, fearing I may have booked myself a spare closet instead of a hotel room, but I was pleasantly surprised by the clever layout and spaciousness. The room didn't have the typical sterile feel of many hotel rooms and was furnished with antique finds like a burgundy-red daybed and a handcrafted writing desk. It was flooded with light from the open window, providing a charming view of the neighboring rooftops. Despite the antique feel and small size of the room itself, the bathroom was quite modern and exceptionally large.

Over the next week, Casa G continued to provide a comforting refuge for me after days spent admiring Renaissance artwork at the Uffizi Gallery and tasting Chianti Classico in the hills of Tuscany. Many evenings, I would wander down the hall to the hotel’s living room — a kind of lounge situated next to the reception desk. It was a tranquil space with tall stuccoed ceilings, warm mood lighting and jewel-toned furnishings that encouraged lounging with a glass of wine. This glass of wine could be poured from the well-stocked Honesty Bar positioned in the corner of the room. The pink-hued marble bar was a new concept for me, but one that I came to love and appreciate at the end of a long day. Sipping wine and mingling with other guests while jazzy renditions of pop songs played in the background was one of my favorite parts of my trip.
The staff at Casa G was warm and welcoming and would often stop to chat or offer assistance. It was a relatively small team, and it was nice to see the same smiling faces, which made the hotel feel even more homey. Each morning, I was greeted with a smiling "Buongiorno" as I helped myself to the continental breakfast — a delicious spread of meats, cheeses, fresh fruit, pastries and coffee. The quaint breakfast room, adorned with a massive light pendant that looked like it was straight out of a Wes Anderson film, was the perfect place to map out my day.

Perfectly situated on the edge of the Santa Maria Novella neighborhood, Casa G occupies a side street off a busy main road filled with shops and restaurants. An easy 10-minute walk in any direction landed me directly in front of a Florence establishment — the Duomo, Uffizi Gallery, Medici Chapels, Mercato Centrale and Ponte Vecchio — as well as restaurants, bars and gelaterias. As a female traveling alone, safety and accessibility were top priorities, and Casa G delivered both.
Need to know
I can personally attest that Casa G is perfect for solo travelers, especially females searching for a safe and convenient location that doesn't sacrifice aesthetics. It is also a great option for families, as several of their room options include lofted space and multiple beds. Within a 10-minute walk to many of the famous sites in Florence, Casa G is an ideal boutique hotel for those seeking proximity, comfort and quality.
