Curator’s statement
Grand Cayman quickly won us over with its crystal-clear waters, incredible food scene and that rare feeling of ease that’s hard to find when traveling with young kids. It’s safe, easy to navigate and surprisingly accessible — with direct flights from many US cities. Staying at Kimpton Seafire made it all the more special: a true luxury resort with a relaxed, family-friendly vibe, thoughtful service and just enough indulgence to make everyone feel like they’re on vacation (yes, even parents!) It’s the kind of place that makes you want to slow down, savor the moment and maybe start planning your return before you’ve even left.

Our family getaway to Grand Cayman was one of those rare trips where everything just clicked. From the moment we landed, we were struck by how welcoming and easy the island felt — which, as a parent traveling with three young kids, is priceless. Grand Cayman is clean, safe and easy to navigate, with a relaxed Caribbean vibe that’s elevated by world-class dining, luxury accommodations and beautiful, swimmable beaches. With direct flights from many US hubs, it’s also incredibly accessible, making it a great choice for families, couples and even multigenerational groups looking for an upscale island escape that doesn’t feel overly touristy.

We chose to stay at Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa, and it absolutely lived up to its reputation. This beachfront property sits at the quiet end of world-famous Seven Mile Beach and blends sleek, modern design with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The staff was incredible — always one step ahead and genuinely kind to our kids, which made a huge difference. We loved the oversized rooms with ocean views and daily breakfast (a highlight!) For families, Camp Seafire, the resort’s kids' club, was a fantastic bonus. With half-day and full-day program options, it offered our kids exciting adventures while giving us the freedom to enjoy some time to ourselves. The pool scene was lively but never chaotic, and the beach setup was as relaxing as it was stunning — soft sand, calm water and no stress about finding chairs.

As for the island itself, Grand Cayman punches way above its weight when it comes to food. From roadside jerk chicken to a variety of fine dining at spots, there’s truly something for every palate. We especially appreciated the family-friendly options that didn’t feel like an afterthought — even our pickiest eaters were happy! We recommend taking at least one day to explore beyond the resort: a boat ride to Starfish Point or Stingray City, or even a quick visit to the Cayman Turtle Centre can be memorable highlights for kids and adults alike.

Kimpton Seafire and Grand Cayman are an ideal match for travelers looking for a laid-back yet luxurious experience — the kind of place where you don’t have to choose between style and substance, or between kid-friendly and sophisticated. It’s perfect for families who want a vacation that feels easy but still special, couples seeking an elevated beach getaway and anyone who values comfort, connection and that “we could stay here forever” feeling. I wouldn’t hesitate to send my clients here — especially those looking to slow down, reconnect and experience the Caribbean at its best.

Need to know
Weather and best time to visit:
Grand Cayman boasts warm, sunny weather year-round, with the best time to visit being during the dry season, from December to April. This period offers the most ideal beach weather, but it’s also peak season, so plan to book early for the best rates and availability. If you're looking for a quieter, more budget-friendly experience, consider visiting during the shoulder months like May or November. Rum Point is another great spot for calm waters and a laid-back atmosphere, perfect for families.
Local currency and tips:
The local currency in Grand Cayman is the Cayman Islands Dollar (KYD), but the US dollar is widely accepted at most businesses, and the exchange rate is approximately 1 USD to 0.83 KYD. Tipping is appreciated in Grand Cayman, with 15-20% being the standard for restaurants and service providers, just make sure to double check your bill because this is most often included already!
