1. Pousada de Lisboa, Praça do Comércio - Small Luxury Hotels: a chic & elegant choice in a prime location
Image courtesy of Pousada de Lisboa, Praça do Comércio
Pousada de Lisboa is hard to beat in terms of location. The hotel is only steps away from impressive sights like the Arco da Rua Augusta and Praça do Comércio — both gorgeous examples of Neoclassical architecture — in Baixa, one of the best areas to stay in Lisbon for first timers.
Pousada de Lisboa’s design pays homage to its elegant historical setting while embracing the chic vibes of contemporary Baixa. The decor is timeless and freshly renovated, but evidence of the hotel’s prior life as a home for kings and ministries is abundant. This isn’t the most luxurious hotel in Lisbon, but it’s not far off, and there’s a lovely intimacy offered here that some of the more grandiose options below can’t offer.
Overall, this is an upscale boutique hotel that’s conveniently located near the heart of Lisbon.

Fora Perks at Pousada de Lisboa:
$100 food / beverage credit, breakfast daily, upgrade & extended check-in/out whenever possible.
2. The Lumiares Hotel & Spa: a posh contemporary choice in Bairro Alto

A high-end boutique hotel, The Lumiares offers a similar experience as Pousada de Lisboa, except it forgoes the latter’s traditional influences in favor of a design that’s decidedly ultra-modern.
Nightlife seekers looking for luxury hotels in Lisbon will be happy with this choice. The hotel is set in Bairro Alto, known for its chill Fado bars and lively clubs, and adopts the neighborhood’s swanky, bohemian energy.
The Lumiares’ spa is small but mighty, and offers a suite of new-age treatments sure to help you unwind after a busy day — or night — exploring the city (there’s a lot to do in Lisbon). Pro Fora Advisor Anny Chen says, "There’s also a fabulous rooftop bar / restaurant for unparalleled views of Lisbon and the ocean."

3. Corinthia Lisbon: a top luxury hotel in Lisbon doubling as an urban oasis

Corinthia Lisbon is an ideal choice for travelers who want top-tier accommodations in a quieter part of the city. This luxury hotel is about 20 minutes from Baixa by car, but only a few blocks from Lisbon’s prestigious Calouste Gulbenkian Museum.
As for the hotel itself, Corinthia Lisbon offers some of the most expansive rooms on our list along with plush furnishings and stellar views of the city. Unlike our previous two choices, Corinthia Lisbon offers a traditional luxury hotel experience (i.e., this isn’t a boutique hotel), including a full-service spa and gym, a bevy of fine dining choices ranging from Mediterranean to Asian menus and a classy cocktail lounge.
While Corinthia Lisbon may not be the most convenient choice for travelers who want to stay in the middle of the action, if you don’t mind a short commute, the accommodations and amenities are among the best in the city.
Fora Perks at Corinthia Lisbon:
Complimentary air & concierge Services
4. Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon: a world-class hotel near Eduardo VII Park

Offering stately accommodations and amenities, Four Seasons Hotel Ritz makes a strong argument for being the best luxury hotel in Lisbon, Portugal.
The hotel is only a block away from Eduardo VII Park, just north of the Marquês de Pombal at the top of Av. Da Liberdade in central Lisbon. It’s much closer to Baixa than Corinthia Lisbon, but still offers enough separation so as to ensure a relaxing stay (if you prefer).
Design-wise, Four Seasons Hotel Ritz adopts a similar approach as Pousada de Lisboa, but on a grand scale. The façade blends in seamlessly with historic Lisbon, yet the interior melds the city’s opulent Old-World themes with the colorful and trendy hallmarks of contemporary Lisbon.
The trade-off, of course, is that rates at this hotel are dramatically higher.
Sidenote: CURA, the hotel’s on-site Portuguese restaurant, is curated by a Michelin-Starred chef and offers an elevated take on local cuisine.

5. Valverde Hotel: the most unique luxury hotel in Lisbon
Valverde Hotel isn’t far behind Four Seasons Hotel Ritz in terms of luxury and placement. The two hotels are only a few blocks apart, but the former has the advantage of being centrally located within the city.
Style-wise, Valverde Hotel is a sharp departure from the otherwise bright and cheerful styles adopted by our previous luxury hotels in Lisbon. Here, you can expect a moody but beautiful collection of dark wood, plush linens and vintage furniture. Valverde Hotel is dripping with sophistication, but there’s also a cozy, hominess to it.
Fora Perks at Valverde Hotel:
Breakfast daily.
Upgrade & extended check-in/out whenever possible.
Complimentary airport transfers.
