A natural progression of a life-long love for travel

Nancy, who became a travel advisor 13 months ago (!), learned the exciting news as she was relaxing by the pool in Fiji. (Personal travel, she stresses, is a fantastic perk of the job.)

“To say this is an honor is an understatement — I am completely in shock,” she said. “It’s both exhilarating and maybe a little terrifying — in the best way.”

Nancy’s career has always been “travel adjacent.” She’s worked in publishing, and also as a travel writer and editor. Years before she became an official advisor, she had claimed the title “professional wanderer” (which we love) on her Instagram, not realizing she was planting the seeds “for one of my favorite career moves to date.”

“Looking back, it makes sense that this is where I ended up, and I’m thrilled that other people trust me with their valuable time and memories,” she said. “I feel very lucky to do what I do, and I’m eager to share my expertise with people beyond my immediate circle.”

Soaking up the wisdom of a travel expert allows us to unlock special experiences we otherwise may not have had access to, and to relinquish the stress that often accompanies planning.

“What’s not to love? I get to research beautiful destinations and hotels all over the world, and there is never a shortage of things to learn and people to meet,” Nancy said. (To get a taste, check out her guides to Palm Springs and Sonoma County.)

“From finding the newest hidden gem, to interior design and decor, to inspiring stories of fellow travelers, I’m here for all of it.”

“When I get to then tie all of my findings up in a pretty bow and present it to my clients for them to see the world like I do? There’s nothing better,” she added. “Getting out and wandering around somewhere I’ve never been ignites me and inspires my creativity more than anything else I do.”

    The greater value of travel

Nancy believes travel is especially valuable for kids. She herself has been traveling with her twins since they were six months old.

“I love inspiring families to get out of their routine and try something new,” she said.

And while traveling with kids can be daunting, Nancy knows how to make it work.

“Let's be honest,” she said, “you still need to do naps, feedings and playtime, so you may as well do it while they are napping in the stroller through the Vatican — we did!”

These worldly, immersive experiences leave a lasting impression — for both kids and adults. For Nancy, the perspective shift a trip inevitably precipitates is reason enough to travel.

“Showing kids that there is a world beyond their backyard is both humbling and inspiring,” she said. “It’s imperative that we learn about different cultures, traditions and ways of life, as it can only make us more empathetic and compassionate, which is something greater than the trip itself.”
