Things to do in Florence, Italy

Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze: Florence is filled with art history like no other city. Inside this famous art museum, you can find Michelangleo's sculpture 'David' alongside a collection of paintings by other Florentine artists.

Uffizi Galleries: In a city that is engulfed with art history, you can find Uffizi Galleries located in the heart of Florence. Positioned next to Piazza della Signoria, this art gallery is home to a collection of sculptures and paintings by famous Florentine artists.

Piazzale Michelangelo: After a short hike or drive up to Piazzale Michaelangelo, you will find yourself at the most amazing view point of Florence. It is best to grab some wine and charcuterie beforehand to enjoy the sunset. Filled with vibrant locals, tourists and musicians, this is the best way to spend your evening before dinner.

Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore: Centrally located in the heart of Florence, this breathtaking cathedral is one you can't miss. To enter, it is free of charge, but you can book a tour to climb to the top of the Duomo. This is not an experience you want to miss out on!

Il Mercato Centrale: Open from the morning until the afternoon, il Mercato Centrale is a two-floor market that consists of food stalls and shops. Spend your morning shopping downstairs at the market stalls and make your way upstairs for some delicious food vendors.

Piazza della Signoria: Florence is made up of various piazzas. Located in front of the famous Palazzo Vecchio, you can have an afternoon drink at a cafe here or visit the Gucci Museum.

Ponte Vecchio: Translated directly as "Old Bridge" the Ponte Vecchio is one of the most famous bridges in the world. You can find various shops while walking over the bridge, as it is also surrounded by restaurants and cafes.

Boboli Gardens + Pitti Palace: A wonderful way to spend an afternoon is to walk through the Boboli Gardens. Found on the other side of the river, these gardens are gorgeous on a nice day. Depending on how long you want to be there, the gardens are endless, filled with flowers and ancient statues.

Day trips

Pisa: Less than an hour train ride from Florence, Pisa makes for the perfect half-day trip. Visit the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa and take in the local cuisine in the area.

Lucca: After a 1 hour and 45-minute train ride, find yourself in the heart of Lucca. Famous for its medieval city walls and towers, this makes for a perfect day trip!

Siena: This train ride is around 1 hour and 50 minutes from Florence. This quaint medieval city in the Tuscany region is perfect to walk around and take in the local aspects.

Places to eat & drink in Florence, Italy

Dinner spots

Acqua al 2: Nestled near Piazza della Signoria, this authentic Florentine restaurant is known for their amazing pasta sampler and blueberry steak. Every time I am in Florence, I have to make my way here as it is one of my favorites. Don't forget to check out the plates hung up on the wall signed by famous visitors!

La Buchetta: Famous for their Florentine steak, this cozy restaurant serves up local cuisine and does not disappoint. The table-side service is impeccable and the food is even better!

Trattoria 13 Gobbi: Craving a vodka sauce pasta and Florentine steak? This local spot is the perfect place for you.

Osteria Santo Spirito: Tucked away in the Santo Spirito neighborhood, this spot is known for their cheesy truffle gnocchi that is baked to perfection. Try to go early when they open to make a reservation. If it is a nice day, outside, the square is a perfect spot to enjoy this dinner!

La Giostra: Want to eat like a local? La Giostra has been around for years and are known for their amazing Tuscan cuisine. Pear ravioli and florentine steaks are their specialty, but you can't go wrong with any item on their menu. This cozy restaurant makes you feel like you are cooking at home with your family.

Panini and pizza shops

Antico Noe: A low-key panini shop tucked away with fresh ingredients. Make your own panini with meat, cheese, vegetables and sauces. The bread is cooked to perfection! Grab a panini and take a stroll in the surrounding area.

All'Antico Vinaio: The most well-known panini shop in Florence. Endless options for both meat lovers and vegetarians. Try to go early as the lines get long, but they go by quick and are worth the wait!

Gustapizza: Found on Via Maggio in the Santo Spirito neighborhood, this is the best pizza in Florence. Make sure to get there when they open, as they do not take reservations. Enjoy wood-fired pizza for takeaway or sit-in.
