Things to do in Kauai

Kayaks in a river.

Kauai Backroads Adventure ATV Tour

The absolute most fun and dirtiest 3-hour adventure exploring 18 miles off-roading in your own Polaris ATV. You will enjoy ocean views, learn Hawaiian history and visit the “backlots” of Hollywood movies such as Jurassic Park! Prepare to get absolutely filthy! My family still talks about the fun we had that day.

Secret Falls Tour

You’ll kayak (single or double kayaks) up beautiful Wailua River before ditching them in the sand at the start of the trailhead for the start of a hike to Secret Falls, an 80 foot waterfall. We were able to jump and swim in the pool at the base which was incredible. Make sure to save some energy though, you have to do the return hike and kayak back!

Surf lessons

Families with an adventure spirit like mine must try surf lessons. It is much harder than it looks but such a fun time for all.

Self driving tours via the Shaka app

While you are cruising the island seeking adventure you can learn a lot about beautiful Kauai via this app that connects to your cars GPS.

Luau

No Kauai vacation is complete without a traditional Hawaiian luau. Our family loved hearing the stories of culture and Hawaiian history throughout the entertainment and dance.

Places to eat & drink in Kauai

A woman and two kids standing near colorful AIOHA landmark.

The Beach House - Gorgeous waterfront dining with amazing sunset views. They source their fresh catch fish from local fisherman and make a mean mai tai. Definitely book a reservation early to catch the gorgeous sunset while watching the local surfers

Stevenson’s Library - Located in the Grand Hyatt Resort. Serves sushi and incredible craft cocktails in a warm wood library setting.

Tiki Iniki - Located on the northside of the Island in Princeville in the most fun tiki themed restaurant serving delicious food and colorful tiki themed cocktails. Check out their cocktail menu, that is a reason to visit alone!

Wishing Well Shaved Ice - We stopped here to cool down on our day trip to Hanalei. Our family was blown away by the amount of creative flavors. Lots of shade and picnic tables with super nice staff. A must visit for something sweet

Kauai Island Brewing Company - Always a must do on our travels is to try a local brewery and Kauai Island does not disappoint!
