Curator’s statement

Whistler-Blackcomb has been rated the Number One Ski Resort in North America, with 5280 feet of vertical, second only to Jackson Hole. Due to its proximity to Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, LA — it has an enormous amount of amenities, besides just the best ski hill! It also has 50,000 hotel beds, from budget hostels to the large luxury chains: Fairmont, Westin, Hilton, le Chamois — even whole house rentals are available and not your tiny university buddies ski crash pad either! Some of the most luxurious homes that you will ever see are scattered throughout the valley of Whistler.

Things to do in Whistler, BC, Canada

Skiing at Whistler Blackcomb, one of the best ski resort.
  • Ski! Best ski hill in North America

  • Drink! Walkable village means the accommodations surround the bars and restaurants

  • Dine! There are a series of five-star restaurants, steak houses and great cuisine

  • Play! There are playgrounds, theaters for movies, live music in the summer where the 2010 Olympic medals ceremonies were held.

  • Culture! A strong local native culture means astonishing displays of native carving. These are done live and in person! You can see these at The Audain Art Gallery, which has Canada's Group of seven masters, alongside native carvings that you will never forget. Imagine a huge wall of wooden carving — look for the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Center.

  • Shop! Some great stores carry ski clothing, equipment, outdoor wear and souvenirs — there must be hundreds of these stores!

  • Activities! You will be gobsmacked at the variety awaiting you. Snowmobiling, hay rides, cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, several zip lines, Heli dining and Heli hiking — in the summer there are outdoor circus-type trampolines in a harness. Peak To Peak Gondola, Whistler Sliding Center (ever been down the hill in a bobsled or skeleton?) If you aren't familiar with the skeleton, picture, grab the local cafeteria tray and head down the mountain at speeds close to 60 miles an hour!

  • Tour! From Whistler you can go hiking, ATV tours, as well as visit cities like Victoria, Vancouver and Kelowna

Places to eat & drink in Whistler, BC, Canada

A steak that is cooked to perfection from Hy's Steak House.
  • Araxi is in the very center of town, great Italian food, and amazing seafood.

  • Hy's Steak House - nuff said? LOL

  • Bearfoot Bistro, which on top of making ice cream tableside, also has a Polar Ice Room, below zero to sample vodkas!

  • Quattro Bistro for Italian.

  • Sidecut at the FourSeasons.

  • Joe Fortes

A short taxi ride away towards or in Whistler Creekside (Maybe 5 miles):

  • The Den at Nita Lake Lodge

  • Rim Rock Cafe - An old favorite!

Pro tip - if you go in the off season, grab the local newspaper, The Whistler Pique. Scan for three and four course menus, offered to fill out the slow season and entice diners. They are the very definition of a fine dining bargain!
