Day 1: Lunch in Old San Juan

Beautiful couple under Umbrella Street

Upon arrival at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, make your way to your chosen hotel in San Juan. Freshen up and get ready to explore Old San Juan. The area is extremely walkable, however, there are golf carts available called Garita Carts or there are taxis and Uber available if you prefer.

Lunch in Old San Juan: Start your adventure with lunch in Old San Juan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are plenty of charming restaurants serving authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. Head to Barrachina or Café El Punto. I highly recommend trying the Pina Coladas at Barrachina!

After lunch, explore the rich history and landmarks of Old San Juan. Castillo San Felipe del Morro is the historic fort that has guarded San Juan's coast for centuries. The views of the ocean from the ramparts are stunning. San Cristóbal Fort: another impressive fort that's part of the San Juan National Historic Site. Its tunnels and expansive grounds are fascinating to explore. Castillo de San Cristóbal is the tallest point in the city and offers amazing views of the coast. Be sure to stop by La Fortaleza (the governor's mansion) and the Umbrella Pathway.

For pre-dinner drinks, check out Alfresco Rooftop Wine Bar, a cozy terrace to watch the sunset with views of the colonial buildings and gorgeous architecture of Old San Juan. They have an extensive wine list and hors d'oeuvre menu with happy hour specials daily.

For dinner, head to ARYA Rooftop at O: LV Fifty Five Hotel for dinner on their rooftop oasis with lagoon views. Dine poolside and enjoy one of their signature cocktails. To elevate your time in San Juan, this stunning design hotel is a top choice, book a room with a panoramic view and balcony to start and end your day overlooking the city.

After dinner, stop by La Vergüenza, a casual dive-bar feel with a friendly neighborhood atmosphere. There is a DJ playing Latin music on Fridays and live bands are brought in for special events.

Day 2: Breakfast in the city

Street of Sanjuan

Fuel up with a Puerto Rican breakfast at a local café. Try tostada with marmalade or a hearty breakfast sandwich. I suggest Pannes in the Condado area or Cafe Mimosa in Old San Juan.

Book a walking tour with a local tour guide to visit the city of La Perla. This constantly evolving neighborhood full of brightly painted homes and beautiful murals, is rich with local culture.

For watersports and a gorgeous beach, Isla Verde is perfect. You'll find vendors offering jet ski rentals, parasailing, and banana boat rides. Once you have worked up an appetite, try Serafina San Juan Restaurant or for a late lunch, head to Orozcos Restaurant.

Spend the afternoon visiting the many art galleries and museums in the area. The Museum of Art of Puerto Rico, The Puerto Rico Museum of Contemporary Art and the Museo de Arte y Diseño de Miramar (MADMi) are fantastic places to start. If you have a love for reading and rare books, be sure to make time for La Casa del Libro Museo Biblioteca which contains a collection of rare books dating to the 15th century!

For dinner, venture to the trendy Condado district, known for its upscale dining. Choose a restaurant with ocean views for a memorable evening. If you are looking for upscale luxury and locally sourced ingredients by a Michelin-rated chef, then 1919 Restaurant checks all of those boxes. If you're in the mood for truly authentic Puerto Rican cuisine, Sazón Cocina Criolla is the place to go. Local herbs and spices, fresh seafood and a variety of flavors offer an experience you won't find anywhere else.

Day 3: Beach bliss & departure

Couple enjoying at the beach

Before your cruise, make the most of your morning with a visit to Condado Beach. Relax on the golden sands and take a dip in the crystal-clear waters. Enjoy a leisurely brunch at the Ola Ocean Front Bistro and sip on a frozen cocktail while enjoying the tropical views. Visit Ashford Avenue, the Puerto Rican Fifth Avenue, for luxury shopping and high-end brands as well as boutiques by local designers. Pick up your last-minute souvenirs to remember your time in this amazing city and head to the cruise port to start your next adventure.
