Curator’s statement

Are you part of a hockey-obsessed family like me? I grew up traveling around the country with my family so my dad could see his favorite players and check out the arenas in various cities. ......And then I married a hockey fan....and now have three little boys who play. Tampa is one of the best cities to go to for a game, due to the ease of getting around and the multitude of things to do for families.

Day 1: Arrive in Tampa

A building in Tampa.

If you're going to a game at Amalie Arena or an event at the Tampa Convention Center, you'll want to base yourself in the Water Street neighborhood. You won't need a rental car here. Take a cab from the airport to your hotel. You'll have everything you need in walking distance or a short trolley/cab ride away.

Grab a burger & beer at Yard House, a restaurant you'll find in many big cities, but the beauty is you know what you're getting if you've had a long day of travel. Looking for seafood? Head to Anchor & Brine, Harpoon Harry's Crab House, or The Pearl. All of these restaurants and more are within walking distance if you're staying in the Water St area.

Day 2: Explore the Tampa Riverwalk

If your game/event is at night, spend the day exploring the Tampa Riverwalk. This 2.6-mile path runs along the Hillsborough River to the Garrison Channel. There are events throughout the year for various holidays & festivals, a public art walking tour, options to rent boats for an hour or take the pirate water taxi and so many restaurants overlooking the water.

After a day of activity, take a break back at your hotel before getting ready for the big game.

Day 3: Brunch at Armature Works

Armature Works is at the end of the Tampa Riverwalk. You can enjoy a scenic stroll from your hotel, or take a short cab ride or the hop on/hop off Pirate Water Taxi. This mixed-use space has an indoor food court (think high-end), event space, full-service restaurants and outdoor space along the Hillsborough River.

But all good things must come to an end. Time for your flight. I hope you enjoyed your weekend in Tampa!
