Day 1: Arrival in Salt Lake City
Depending on what time you land, the Salt Lake City International Airport is conveniently about a 15-minute drive or Uber ride to the heart of downtown. Once you arrive, I recommend spending the afternoon getting a feel for the city. Take a leisurely walk around downtown, exploring local parks like Liberty Park or Pioneer Park to stretch your legs and enjoy the crisp fall air.
Dinner at Takashi Sushi
In the evening, head to Takashi, one of the city's top sushi spots! Renowned for its fresh, high-quality seafood and creative dishes, this stylish restaurant is ideal for kicking off your first night in town. Whether you go for sashimi, inventive rolls or omakase, Takashi is guaranteed to hit the spot!
Utah Jazz Basketball Game
After dinner, make your way to the Utah Jazz basketball game at Vivint Arena, just a short 5-minute uber (or 15-minute walk) from dinner. Whether you're a basketball enthusiast or just along for the excitement, the arena’s lively atmosphere will cap off your first night in Salt Lake City with high-energy fun! Not to mention, they are actually pretty good!
Day 2: Day Trip to Park City
Escape to the charming mountain town of Park City, a renowned ski destination famous for its alpine scenery, vibrant arts scene and a Main Street lined with restaurants and shops. Just a 40-minute drive from Salt Lake City, you can either rent a car or take a rideshare, depending on your plans for the day/ weekend.
Start your day with a relaxed brunch at The Eating Establishment
A quaint and casual spot serving up classic comfort food with a local twist. It's the perfect place to fuel up before hitting the town.
After brunch, take your time strolling down Main Street, where you’ll find lots of unique local shops, art galleries and bars to explore. Whether you're doing some early holiday gift shopping, sipping on a craft cocktail or just soaking in the mountain views, Main Street is the place to embrace it all.
For dinner, elevate your evening with a visit to Handle, an upscale restaurant known for its seasonally-driven menu and a favorite among the RHOSLC. Or Prime Steak House & Piano Bar, which is exactly what it sounds like — premium steaks paired with live piano music, creating the perfect cozy atmosphere.
Day 3: Thanksgiving Dinner
For a classic holiday tradition, enjoy watching football games in the comfort of your hotel or at a local sports bar. If you’re in the mood for some fresh air and a bit of exercise, consider participating in a local Turkey Trot before heading off to your feast.
Eight Settlers Distillery
Nestled in the foothills, Eight Settlers Distillery offers a vast and delicious buffet menu featuring modern but traditional American cuisine. Enjoy one of their signature cocktails or a classic Dirty Martini while taking in the holiday feels and surrounding landscape.
Need to know
We left early the morning after Thanksgiving, but there is so much more to explore in Salt Lake City! If you are staying for longer or even want to tailor this itinerary to you, see below for more things to do, eat & drink!
White Horse Spirits & Kitchen: We loved this bar — it was perfect for a little night-cap cocktail. Our only mistake was going the night before Thanksgiving since it was the bar all the College students went to meet up at, so it was incredibly crowded, but it definitely made for a fun atmosphere. Check this place out if you're craving oysters!
The Bonneville Salt Flats: A stunning and what seems endless stretch of white salt crust is almost an otherworldly sight to see, especially at sunrise or sunset. Although I haven’t made it there yet, it's definitely on my list! If you're visiting this winter, be sure to dress warmly — the flats can get extremely cold during the colder months.
Gallivan Center Ice Rink: Beautiful outdoor skating rink in the heart of downtown surrounded by city lights and public art installations, perfect for the holidays.
Spa Day at Basalt: Who doesn't love a spa day? Basalt has a serene feeling to it and luxurious treatments that will leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
Note: They are closed on Holidays, so if you do want to book your treatment, make sure you keep that in mind!
Whether you are heading to SLC for a fall getaway or an upcoming holiday
Safe travels and happy holidays!
