The serenity here makes it a perfect early stop to immerse yourself in Maui’s natural beauty.
Mile 17: Halfway to Hana banana bread
As you wind your way along the road, stop at this charming roadside stand for the best banana bread on the island. Warm and perfectly sweet, it’s the ideal mid-morning snack. Pair it with a fresh coconut or a tropical smoothie for a true taste of Maui.
Mile 29: Nahiku Marketplace
This vibrant marketplace is a hidden gem. Featuring local artisans and food vendors, it’s the perfect spot to grab a plate of lunch or a fresh acai bowl. Browse handmade jewelry and crafts as you stretch your legs. The laid-back vibe here embodies the spirit of Hana.
Mile 32: Wa’ānapanapa State Park & black sand beach
Wa’ānapanapa State Park is home to a stunning black sand beach, lava tubes and sea arches. Take the short hike to the nearby blowhole or simply relax on the unique shoreline. Be sure to make a reservation ahead of time to secure entry to this popular spot.
Mile 39: Bamboo Forest (Pipiwai Trail)
Located near Haleakalā National Park, this magical bamboo forest is a must-see. The Pipiwai Trail leads you through towering bamboo stalks that rustle in the wind, creating a tranquil and otherworldly experience. The 4-mile round-trip trail also takes you past waterfalls and lush greenery, making it well worth the effort.
Mile 45: Wailua Falls
Conclude your journey at one of Maui’s most picturesque waterfalls. Wailua Falls cascades 80 feet into a serene pool below, creating a postcard-worthy scene. Easily accessible from the road, this is the perfect spot to snap a few final photos.
