Things to do in Koh Samui

If you're planning a romantic getaway to this magical island, here's a list of things to do for couples, including the breathtaking Ang Thong Marine Park and the heartwarming Samui Elephant Sanctuary.

Explore Ang Thong Marine Park: Embark on an unforgettable day trip to Ang Thong Marine Park. The journey there by boat is an adventure in itself, and once you arrive, you'll be greeted by a mesmerizing archipelago of 42 lush islands. Hike up to the viewpoint for a breathtaking panorama (I'm not going to lie, this was TOUGH, do not attempt if your fitness isn't great) and then snorkel in the crystal-clear waters to witness vibrant marine life hand in hand.

Samui Elephant Sanctuary or Samui Elephant Haven: My husband and I had smiles ear to ear when we visited the Samui Elephant Sanctuary. Interacting with these majestic creatures, observing them roam freely in a safe environment and feeding them was an incredibly heartwarming experience. Learning about their rescue stories and the sanctuary's dedication to their well-being made the encounter even more meaningful. Both of these sanctuaries are ethical and are very transparent about where the donations and money is going. You can follow them on Instagram @samuielephantsanctuary and @samuielephanthaven.

Explore the Fisherman's Village: Stroll hand-in-hand through the charming Fisherman's Village in Bophut. The narrow streets are lined with boutique shops, art galleries and lovely cafes. Don't miss the Friday Night Walking Street Market for an authentic Thai experience and delectable street food.

Private Longtail Boat Excursion: To add a dash of adventure and privacy, we arranged a private longtail boat tour to Pig Island and Coral Island. Exploring hidden coves, snorkeling in pristine waters and having a secluded beach all to ourselves made us feel like we were in our own little paradise.

Night of Fire Shows and Beach Bars: End the day with a bit of excitement and head to the beach bars that offer fire shows, along Chaweng or Bo Phut Beaches. We loved Coco Tam's on Bo Phut, bonus that had great pizza! Watching the mesmerizing fire dancers perform while sipping cocktails under the stars is an unforgettable experience.

Secret Buddha Garden: Embark on a romantic adventure to discover the Secret Buddha Garden, tucked away in the hills, this hidden gem features a collection of statues, waterfalls and lush greenery.

Hin Ta and Hin Yai Rocks: Visit the famous Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks (Hin Ta and Hin Yai) on Lamai Beach. These unique rock formations resembling male and female genitalia are not only amusing but also a symbol of enduring love.

Relax at Namuang Waterfall: Escape the heat and take a refreshing dip at Namuang Waterfall. The cool, cascading waters surrounded by tropical greenery provide a romantic setting to relax and cool off together.

Indulge in Thai Cuisine: As foodies, we couldn't resist savoring the delectable Thai cuisine. From aromatic street food to candlelit dinners high on the mountain overlooking the island as the sunset, each meal was a culinary delight. We didn't have time to do this because of our other activities, but taking a cooking class together, to learn how to prepare authentic Thai dishes would have been so much fun.

Thai Massage Indulgence: A couples' spa retreat was a must on our list. We pampered ourselves with traditional Thai massages and indulgent treatments at our hotel Four Seasons Koh Samui, it was amazing. There is also the opportunity to have massages in town that might be less luxurious, but much cheaper and you will still leave nice and relaxed.

Ziplining, 4-Wheeling through the jungle, explore the only whiskey distillery on the island, Magic Alambic Rum Distillery — be sure to check that the roads are open before booking any of these. During our trip due to high rain, the roads were closed off so we weren't able to do these activities.
