Hudson Valley travel guide.
Curator’s statement

I am so fortunate to live within an hour of two of my favorite Hudson Valley towns, Cold Spring and Beacon, NY. Both towns have gained immense popularity because of COVID, which led many NYC residents to discover just how special the Hudson Valley is. There are so many things that make Cold Spring and Beacon amazing! Both are accessible by train, so you can even do a day trip if you don’t want to stay overnight. Both towns have vibrant Main Streets, including dozens of restaurants and specialty shops. Lastly, Hudson Valley hiking is some of the best in the world! Read on to find out my favorite places and how I would spend a perfect Hudson Valley weekend.

Things to do in Hudson Valley

Stone structure surrounded by green grass and trees during daytime

Hiking

Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve, Breakneck Ridge and Anthony’s Nose are three of my favorites. What remains of the Cornish Estate are on the grounds of the Hudson Highlands too— it’s a must see. For the best views of the Hudson River, I usually opt for Anthony’s Nose or Breakneck Ridge (Tip: Breakneck Ridge is not for beginners.) Mount Beacon Park leads to an amazing Fire Tower (it is an intermediate hike.)

Bannerman's Castle

For a unique experience, book a tour to Bannerman's Castle. This is a historic castle on an island in the Hudson River. I’ve kayaked to the island, taken a full tour and even saw Dracula at night.

Denning's Point Distillery

For a unique cocktail experience, check out Denning's Point Distillery, an amazing space with a garage door that rolls up to reveal a distillery and live music.

Dia Beacon

For a great museum, visit Dia Beacon.

Shopping

Fashion and Coffee at Paulette in Cold Spring, New York.

Antiques at Cold Spring Antiques Vault Multi-Dealer Vintage Center which features a mix of dealers and is always delights.

Flowercup Wine is great little wine shop to pick up a bottle for a hike or to bring back to your hotel.

Cold Spring Cheese features amazing selection of cheeses and local foods.

Alps Hudson Valley sells the best dark chocolate covered Grahams.

General Store in Beacon New York | Solstad House is a unique general store selling one-of-a-kind gifts.

Violet Reserve: This shop is my favorite. It has a curated mix of vintage clothing and tableware. Very reasonable prices too!

Cold Spring

Hudson Hils Cafe is my absolute favorite. Every meal I’ve eaten here is wonderful. My favorite dish is the Apple & Fig Grilled Cheese sandwich.

Le Bouchon: A great little French restaurant with a lovely back patio. The Escargot is delicious.

Riverview Restaurant: A contemporary American restaurant with seasonally inspired menus featuring market fresh seafood, brick-oven pizza and creative daily specials in a casual, friendly atmosphere.

Hudson House River Room: Views of the Hudson and great food and wine. Sunday brunch is highly recommended.

Cro’Nest: A cute little wine bar perfect to grab a bite and a glass of wine after a day hiking and shopping along Main Street.

Beacon

Kitchen Sink Supper Club: Offers a chef's tasting menu each Friday and Saturday as well as a 3-course tasting menu each Saturday (early seating.)

Max's on Main is a staple in Beacon. Good pub food and live music on Saturday nights.

Beacon Falls Cafe: Good for breakfast and lunch.
