Things to do in Australia

Three men with blue ocean in the background on a sunny day.

Sydney (recommended stay of four nights/five days)

  • A must see in Sydney and one of the worlds architecture wonders, the Sydney opera house

  • Two completely different beaches, each with their own unique personality in Metropolitan Sydney and easily accessible by public transportation. Bondi Beach, which is famous for Surfing and the Icebergs and Manly Beach. Manly reminds me of one of the many iconic beach towns with an Australian twist.

  • A walk in Sydney and the CBD isn't complete unless you walk the Harbour front and through Botanic Gardens of Sydney.

  • I highly recommend that you spend one day outside of Sydney with an incredible tour company and partner of John-Voyage. Sean, Chapo and the entire team provided a day long adventure of the Blue Mountains including incredible Blue Mountain Views, the worlds steepest railway and last but not least a couple hours at Sydneys famous Featherdale Wildlife park, where you are able to feed kangaroos and take pictures with darling Koalas.
Melbourne (recommended stay of three nights/four days)

  • A must see museum and essential part of Aborignial history and culture, Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre.

Melbourne (recommended stay of four nights/five days)

  • See Melbourne and its famous laneways. Each laneway has unique art, shops and restaurants that offer a fun day of exploring and is located right in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD

  • Catch an Australian Footy game at the MCG.

Uluru (two nights/three days)

Nothing can prepare you for the magical, spiritual experience of Uluru. While located two-and-a-half hours by plane from Sydney or Melbourne, visiting this natural wonder of the world is well worth your time and many luxury accommodations offer packages and walks around this spiritual gem.

Tasmania (three nights/four days)

  • Step into a nature filled alternate world that is unique to even Australia. From food, arts, culture and incredible hiking and nature tours, Tasmania left a mark on me I wont soon forget.

  • Hike Cape Huay, an incredible moderate challeged walk though stunning scenery that ends at the edge of a cliff overlooking the Tasman Sea.

  • Boat Tour through Hobart Bay: View this historic city from the water. There are many options and I would be more than happy to recommend a few that I have taken in the past.

  • Nothing beats the largest museum in the Southern Hemisphere (the MONA). This is a must visit while in Tasmania and getting there is half the fun (by Ferry).

Day Trips (Optional Trip Extension or modification)

Cairns/Great Barrier Reef: Visiting this magical oceanic wonder is a must for everyone. I have had the pleasure of visiting the reef a few times over my trips to Australia and if you can take the additional time off and spend time in Australia, I would highly recommend at least three nights/four days in Cairs/Great Barriexr Reef.

Places to eat & drink in Australia

Waffles with strawberry and cream on a plate.
  • Breakie (breakfast) at Bills in Sydney is a must!

  • Lunch or dinner with incredible Sydney harbor views at Quay.

  • Looking for a rooftop bar in Sydney? Visit The Rooftop Sydney

  • Beachside dining in St. Kilda (Melbourne's beach area).

  • If you are looking for great views of the Melbourne Skyline and a nice menu, try Rockpool Bar and Grill.

  • While at Uluru I would highly recommend the Ayers Rock Resort and the plethora or options that this property has. One of the most unique dining experiences is the field of light.

  • In Tasmania the focus of the cuisine is seafood. I would highly recommend Aloft Restaurant.

  • For a more casual expirence in Hobart and for those of of you from the US that crave Mexican cuisine. I highly recommend Pancho Villa.

Need to know

While I was only able to show you one suggested itinerary, Australia is such a large and diverse country, there are so many different options and types of holidays that can be planned for everyone.
