Hit the Slopes:

Four fantastic mountains in the Aspen area cater to families of all ages and skill levels. These mountains include Buttermilk, Aspen, Snowmass and Aspen Highlands. A lift ticket or the IKON Pass gives you access to all four mountains, and free shuttle access connects all four ski areas.

Here’s a breakdown of each mountain that makes up the Aspen Snowmass Ski Resort so you can determine which mountain is best for your family:

  • Aspen Mountain — Located at the edge of downtown Aspen, this mountain has some steep terrain but is a great option for intermediate and advanced skiers.

  • Buttermilk — Under 10 minutes from downtown Aspen, this mountain is great for beginners.

  • Snowmass — Personally, this is my favorite of the four mountains. Located at Snowmass Village, a 10-minute drive from Aspen, this mountain has terrain for every level. This is the perfect mountain for you if you’re a family of skiers or boarders at varying skill levels. This is also the primary mountain where ski lessons take place.

  • Aspen Highlands — This is the most technically challenging mountain in the Aspen area, with steep terrain. It’s also where the infamous Cloud Nine Aspen Bistro is located. If you want to spend a champagne-soaked afternoon on the mountain, this is the place to do it.

Discover the Snowmass Ice Age Discovery Center:

Make a journey back in time at the Snowmass Ice Age Discovery Center, a fascinating museum that showcases the area's prehistoric wonders. Marvel at the ancient fossils and artifacts unearthed during the construction of the Ziegler Reservoir. Your kids will be captivated by the interactive exhibits and the chance to learn about the incredible creatures that once roamed the land.

Explore Maroon Bells:

A family-friendly adventure awaits at Maroon Bells, a picturesque destination with stunning twin peaks and scenic trails. Enjoy the breathtaking views and take a leisurely stroll around the shimmering Maroon Lake. If your family is up for more adventure, embark on a kid-friendly hike through the surrounding wilderness, filled with natural wonders and opportunities for wildlife spotting.

Experience Snowshoeing in Ashcroft:

Head to Ashcroft, a historic ghost town near Aspen, for a unique and memorable family activity. Strap on snowshoes and explore the enchanting snowy trails that wind through the town and its surroundings. Your family will love the sense of adventure as you discover hidden treasures and learn about the area's fascinating history.

Embracing Aspen's Culture

Beyond its natural beauty, Aspen is also renowned for its vibrant cultural scene. From art galleries and museums to music festivals and theater productions, there's always something happening in town. Be sure to check out the Aspen Art Museum for a dose of contemporary art or catch a performance at the historic Wheeler Opera House.

Coaster Rides and Tubing

Ready for an adventure the entire family can enjoy? Check out the Breath-taker Alpine Coaster at Elk Camp in Snowmass. After an adrenaline-inducing ride on over a mile of elevated track, enjoy multiple lanes of lift-served tubing in the snow. This family-friendly facility is also open after dark.

Go Shopping

Aspen has no shortage of high-end stores to choose from, but a must-visit is Kemo Sabe, your one-stop shop for Western wear, including custom-designed cowboy hats and cowboy boots.
