Curator’s statement

Less than two hours north of Barcelona, along the coast, lie my favorite beaches. Last year, I spent a week exploring Costa Brava's beauty. Begur, the focal point of this guide, is a peaceful oasis with crystal-clear Mediterranean waters. The village and its surroundings boast spectacular natural beauty, with cliffs, beaches and coves making this coast one of Spain's best. I recommend visiting in the off-season, but it's worth the trip even in the high season. Discover my top picks for accommodations, must-visit beaches and the best dining spots.

Where to stay

Unlock perks by contacting Nicole to book your trip.

Day 1 : Arrive in Begur

A small alleyway of Begur's Old Town with shops, people, stone buildings and a sliver of blue sky.

Take it slow. Stay in town for a dinner on Spanish time at Arreu Begur. This restaurant is great for anything you’re craving after a day of travel. They serve different dishes, including fish, burgers, salads or tapas. Finish your evening with drink at your hotel/accommodation.

Day 2 : Cala Sa Tuna

A sunset view of green land and blue sea, with houses from a local village, underneath the vast sky.

Catch the Sunrise

Why not start early on your first full day in Begur? Head out for the most picturesque sunrise at Cala Sa Tuna. Grab a sweater, get there early and take your coffee to-go for a moment to remember.

Beach Day

This rocky beach cove is calm yet vibrant with restaurants and shops near the beach. Your day will be well spent taking in the sunshine and eating the freshest seafood at Hostal Restaurant Sa Tuna.

Tapas in Begur

Enjoy some dinner time tapas at Taverna Son Molas. Take a seat outside on their terrace in the shadow of the Begur castle. This restaurant is creative, original and has a hybrid mix of food accompanied by a good wine list.

Day 3 : Platja de Sa Riera

A silhouetted outdoor seating area, overlooking the stunning Mediterranean Sea and rocky coastline.

Beach Day

This grainy ,sand beach is the largest cove in Begur. It’s surrounded by beautiful luxury villas and cliffs. Have tapas and drinks at the beach bar. Explore other dining options with canoe rentals.

Dinner Spot in Town

After your day at the beach, once you've returned back to Begur, head to Clara. It is located right in the heart of downtown, with all the music, food, wine and cocktails you can get.

Day 4 : Downtown Begur

A side view of residential buildings in Begur's Old Town with a couple walking toward the camera on a sunny day.

A Day in Town

Take a break from the beaches for a day by wandering around the charming town of Begur. You will never be far from great food and unique shops. Begur Castle & Torre de Sant Ramon are Begur's main features, which are worth a visit. If you’re lucky, there is a weekly market that interests tourists and locals alike.

Breakfast & Lunch Spots

Fitzroy Café is perfect for a morning coffee and pastry, if not spent at your accommodations. Restaurant Turandot is a great lunch spot. This family-run eatery in the middle of downtown Begur doesn’t get any more authentic.

Shop & Walk Around the Village

Stop into unique boutiques like La Petite Begur and La Tela de nens i nenes a Begur for some shopping for you and your little ones. If you’re an espadrilles fan, head to Boutique Begur Esports & Moda.

Siesta Time

Take some pool time at your hotel or take a siesta of your own.

An overall Spain tip: Pay attention to the hours of operation for shops and restaurants. Spaniards take their siestas seriously and close their businesses in the later afternoon.

Dinner with a View

Now let’s get out of downtown a little and have a lovely dinner at Cap Sa Sal. Its location is seated perfectly on a cliff and features drool-worthy paella, tinto de verano (a drink similar to sangria) and gorgeous views that you’ll probably dream about later.

Day 5 : Platja Fonda

An evening at Cap Sal Sal restaurant, with tables set outside, overlooking the moonlight reflecting on the surface of the big, blue sea.

Beach Day

A stunning hidden cove, only accessible by stairs, is surrounded by staggering cliffs. It’s a perfect beach to spend the day and munch on a brought lunch, such as a jamon serrano sandwich, olive oil chips and a Fanta límon. This was my favorite spot on the Costa Brava and I still daydream about it.

Pizza Night

You can never go wrong with a good pizza and a cocktail. For dinner, La Pizzeta is lovely on a summers night as the seating is alfresco in their garden.

Day 6 : Platja d’Aiguablava

A point of view perspective of blue water, tree branches and a small, sandy, beach area with white houses in the background.

Beach Day ft. Optional Hike

This is one of the more popular coves for its finer, sand beach and transparent waters. Want to take a bit of a hike around the coast? Start here as it connects you to Platja Fonda. This is a great way to see jaw dropping houses and secluded coves to explore.

Lunch by the Beach

Have lunch at Toc al Mar, which is right off the beach. Make sure to order their specialty - an oak grilled fish. Their seafood is caught daily, it doesn't get fresher than this.

Last Supper

Have dinner at Restaurant Aigua Blava. Take in all the views for the last time and enjoy traditional Catalan cuisine with fresh, seasonal ingredients.

Day 7 : Returning Home

Churros con Chocolate

Make sure to have some churros or porras con chocolate (larger churros) before you leave! The breakfast of champions. Visit Xurreria La Family for churros. You don’t want to miss out on them.
