Things to do in Buenos Aires, Argentina

Buenos Aires main park

A private guided tour of Buenos Aires' neighborhoods is a fantastic way to delve into the city's rich history and culture. Exploring iconic locations and learning about the city's diverse neighborhoods provides valuable insights, making it easier to plan future unguided explorations. Fun fact: Avenida 9 de Julio holds the record for the widest avenue in the world—that’s 16 lanes of traffic!

Enjoy time immersing yourself in the lively spirit of La Boca! Its vibrant atmosphere, characterized by colorful houses and storefronts, offers a unique glimpse into Buenos Aires' cultural diversity. The neighborhood's working-class charm and distinctive architecture, a contrast to other parts of the city, make it a captivating destination.

Learn how to make empanadas and cocktails while enjoying a lively evening of food and wine at The Argentine Experience—an intimate dinner party that is both educational and entertaining. I found this to be a really fun way to kick off the trip as well as meet fellow travelers.

Stroll the streets of Recoleta, an upscale neighborhood with beautiful buildings and mansions. Visit La Recoleta Cemetery where one of the most well-known Argentinians, Eva Perón, is laid to rest. Speaking of Eva Perón, the Museo Evita provides a fascinating glimpse into Eva Perón's life, showcasing her legacy through memorabilia and personal items. Seeing the balcony of Casa Rosada, where Eva Perón delivered her renowned speech, adds a poignant touch to the experience, immersing you in Argentina's rich cultural and political history.

Learn about the fascinating history of the Teatro Colon by taking a guided tour. Known for its architecture and acoustics, this opera house is considered to be one of the best in the world.

Strolling through Buenos Aires' parks is a wonderful way to experience the city's natural beauty and leisurely atmosphere. Whether you're wandering through the lush greenery of Palermo Woods or simply relaxing in one of the many charming squares, the city's parks offer a peaceful escape from the urban hustle. Don't forget to soak in the local culture and perhaps enjoy a picnic amidst the scenic surroundings.

Experience the art of Tango—Whether on a Sunday in San Telmo or at one of the cabaret-like venues such as Rojo Tango or La Ventana. Feeling ambitious? Take a one-hour tango class and learn some new moves to impress your friends back home!

Visiting Iguazu Falls is indeed an awe-inspiring experience. I recommend spending at least one night to fully immerse yourself in the rainforest's beauty and appreciate the sheer magnificence of the falls. The close proximity provided by the boardwalks offers a thrilling encounter with the raw power of nature. Whether you choose a boat tour or a helicopter ride, exploring the falls from different angles provides a unique perspective that truly captures their grandeur. Argentina's claim to 80% of the falls ensures there's plenty to explore, making it a must-visit destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.

A cool experience that I recommend (and definitely a worthy photo spot!) is visiting the Three Frontiers Landmark to witness the meeting point of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. Standing at the convergence of two rivers, you'll easily see the geographical significance of this location, where the countries share their borders.

Places to eat & drink in Buenos Aires, Argentina

street cafe with blue umbrellas

Calden del Soho: Steaks that are seasoned and cooked to perfection.

Fogón Asado: Excellent service, multi course tasting menu with wine pairings.

La Cabrera: Another great choice for steak. This spot has a great atmosphere, but be prepared for a lot of food.

Don Julio: I actually celebrated Thanksgiving here and had the most delicious, mouthwatering steak instead of turkey!
