Things to do in Tulum
Rent bikes and explore along Tulum's beach road: The scenic road runs parallel to the coastline, offering breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea. Make stops along the way at the lively beach clubs, boutiques, and roadside cenote swimming holes. Throw a cover-up over your bathing suit, put a towel and sunscreen in your bike basket and make the most of your day.
Visit the Tulum Ruins: Perched on a cliff overlooking the ocean, these well-preserved Mayan ruins offer a stunning backdrop. Explore ancient structures like El Castillo and learn about the Mayan civilization. Insider tip: there is very little shade, so make sure to pack water, sunscreen, and wear a hat and comfortable shoes as you immerse yourself in the fascinating history and picturesque surroundings.
Head to one of the many beach clubs: If you feel like a party atmosphere with dancing, drinks, and loud music. Or my personal favorite, pack a book and relish in the serene ambiance of Tulum’s beaches. Nothing better than beachside tacos and margaritas before snoozing in the midday sun.
Practice yoga on the beach: Or visit one of the many wellness spas located in the area.
Places to eat & drink in Tulum
My idea of a true vacation in Tulum is breakfast in bed followed by beachside tacos and mezcal margaritas. I do think the dinner restaurant scene is worth getting out of your swimsuit for.
Arca: I still think about the amazing wood-fired dinner we ate here. The menu features dishes inspired by the Yucatan region, showcasing the diversity of local, organic ingredients. Definitely order a mezcal cocktail and ask the server for recommendations. You won’t be disappointed in anything they suggest.
Hartwood: Enjoy a rustic dinner in the jungle under twinkling lights at this busy and bustling place. Make sure to make reservations well in advance and try the fresh catch of the day.
Posada Margarita: Seems strange to eat Italian food while in the land of fantastic Mexican cuisine, but this is a must-visit. Located right near the sea, think low candlelight, whitewashed furniture, and absolutely delicious homemade pasta. They also have a great wine list. Insider tip, they do not take credit cards so make sure to pack cash or have Zelle downloaded on your phone.
Casa Jaguar: My personal favorite place to spend an evening in Tulum is Casa Jaguar. Celebrated not only for its creative food and cocktail scene but for its (let it be said, SEXY) dark, moody, and vibrant jungle scene. Again, let the servers guide you on what is fresh from the kitchen and bar. Just lean back and enjoy this incredible sense of place.
