Curator’s statement
Honolulu, Hawai'i, is an incredibly safe and special option to spend some quiet, pre-baby time with your partner without having to whip out your passport. I highly recommend it as a babymoon location because it is not too far from the continental U.S., has great infrastructure (if you are concerned about health care options), variety of foods to meet any craving, and perfect weather year-round. Oahu is the perfect place because you can dial up your vacation if you feel like an adventure, or chill out if you just want to bum on the beach.

Things to do in Honolulu, Oahu
Here are some recommended gentle Babymoon activities:
Loll on a beach - Ala Moana Beach Park, Kaimana Beach, Kahala Beach, or an easy 20-30 minute drive away brings you to the less-crowded Kailua Beach or Waimanalo. My favorite part of Waikiki is the quieter side on the left side of the sea wall by Kapiolani Park.
Enjoy natural treatments at a Hawai'ian spa - Ask for a lomi lomi pregnancy massage.
Take a gentle boat ride and learn about Pearl Harbor, and contemplate at the Arizona Memorial.
Shop at Kahala Mall (smaller) or Ala Moana Shopping Center (larger), both of which have ample seating, dining options, and facilities.
Easy hike to the Makapu’u Lighthouse, which is a gorgeous paved hike, or a stroll along the old Pali lookout.
Visit the Honolulu Museum of Art, which is peaceful and a jewelbox of a museum, and also has a lovely indoor/outdoor cafe for a light lunch or coffee, or the affiliated, less known and beautiful former home of heiress Doris Duke, The Shangri La.
Enjoy live Hawai'ian music at sunset at House Without a Key at the Halekulani.
Visit the zen Byodo-in Temple on the cooler Windward side of Oahu.
Day Trips:
Take a leisurely drive to Haleiwa and the North Shore and watch the waves, enjoy some shaved ice, and have lunch at Kua Aina Sandwich Shop (get the mahi mahi burger and a side of fries).
Places to eat & drink in Honolulu, Oahu
Here are some overall recommendations that have amazing food, drinks, service (and have nice facilities - helpful when pregnant)!
Kapa Hale- Cozy casual dinner.
Merriman's Honolulu - Slightly fancy by Hawai'ian standards, upscale fresh local cuisine.
House Without a Key at the Halekulani - Watch the sunset and enjoy live music and hula dancing.
Waiola Shave Ice - This is the OG shave ice place in Honolulu, either location is great, for an authentic cool treat on a hot Hawai'ian day.
Highway Inn - All their Hawaiian food is amazing, and the portions are hearty, perfect for lunch or dinner.
Zippy’s- Fast-casual local favorite for a quick fix or when the hangries hit. (the Kahala outpost has the best parking and restroom facilities)
Mariposa - Great for a nicer sit-down lunch place, at Ala Moana Shopping Center.
Roy’s - For a fancier dinner - ask for a table facing the marina with a sunset view.
Need to know
Honolulu is a dense urban area, and you will want a rental car in order to best utilize your time on island. I am from Honolulu, so returning home for my babymoon was a no brainer, as I was concerned about Zika in other tropical domestic or international locations when pregnant.
