Curator’s statement

Most people would not think that Washington DC is a foodie destination. As a Washington DC native, I have seen DC's restaurant scene grow to compete with New York, Miami and LA. There are now 24 Michelin-star restaurants, multiple food halls and a diversity of foods. When friends visit for a weekend, these are the places I would take them. No monuments, no sight seeing, just eating.

Things to do in Washington DC

Navy Yard is a waterside neighborhood.

There are many options in Washington, DC. This is for a central location for you to prepare to eat your way through DC. I would recommend staying at the Navy Yard neighborhood. It's a short 10-15 minute ride from DCA.

The Thompson is a great hotel in the heart of Navy Yard. There is plenty of access to food and drinks within stumbling distance, like across the street distance. The Thompson also has a great rooftop bar with great views of the city.

Navy Yard is a quiet neighborhood away from downtown but you are still in DC. It's a quick Uber ride (10-15 min), depending on traffic, to get to downtown. Everything is typically 10-15 minutes away in DC.

From the Navy Yard, you can get to the Wharf, Capitol Hill, Eastern Market and Union Market in less than 10 minutes.

Remember you are here to eat, you do not need shopping or sight see.

Places to eat & drink in Washington DC

Silver Diner is located in Navy Yard neighborhood.

Thursday Lunch

Union Market - Check into the Thompson and drop your bags off. Catch an Uber to Union Market. Union Market is a food hall that has great food.

Grab a fish taco from District Fish Wife.

Have a Beef Shawarma at Yasmine.

Walk two blocks over to La Cocesha and grab an empanada from Peruvian Brothers.

Sit outside at Las Gemelas with a Mezcal Margarita and people watch.

I said earlier that there would be no shopping, but you can browse at La Coesha. La Coesha is a Latin American market that has small shops and a food hall.

Need dessert? Head back to the market and stop into The Creamery and grab some Ice Cream. Need a bottle of wine to bring back to the hotel? Stop by Vitis Wines. I love this place.

Thursday Dinner

Albi - You'll need a reservation for this place. You wont have to stray too far. Albi is just a two block walk from the hotel. Albi is upscale Palestinian food. The food is cooked over a hearth (FIRE!) and coal-fired. Start with pita and hummus. Move on to the mezza - BBQ'D Warak Dawali and MD Crab Kousa Manshi. Then move onto the mains, the Smoked Bobo Chicken has been on the menu since the beginning. Save room for the Soft Serve Labne - Yes, they have tahini soft serve.

Friday Breakfast

Silver Diner (Navy Yard) - If you book through me and booked the Thompson at Navy Yard, breakfast is included. If you are not keen on hotel breakfast, you can venture out over towards National Park and hit the Silver Diner.

Friday Lunch

Lucky Buns at the Wharf - Take an Uber or the metro to the Wharf. If you have not been to DC in the last five years, you will be in for a surprise. The Wharf has been redeveloped with plenty of food options. At Lucky Buns at the Wharf you will have one of the best burgers. My go to is the Lucky Bun or the Hot Tiger Bun for a spicy crispy chicken sandwich option. Dont forget to get some Curry fries.

You can continue to explore the Wharf or head back to take a nap.

Friday Happy Hour

District Winery - If you are a wine drinker stop by District Winery. It's a winery where the wine is made mostly on site. Pull up to the tasting room and taste their wines. Depending on what time of year you are visiting DC, there maybe live music happening on the boardwalk.

Beer - If you are a beer drinker, stroll down the boardwalk and head to a beer garden or two. There are plenty of great beer places such as - Dacha Beer Garden, Solace and Blue Jacket.

Friday Dinner

There are plenty of dinner options after-hours happy hour in Navy Yard. Here are some of my go-to, depending on what you feel like:

Saturday Brunch

Nina May - Head towards downtown and check out this quaint spot that is tucked into the neighborhood. Go with the Chef Choice for $35. Walk a few blocks over to 14th Street and grab a seat at Barcelona Wine Bar. Have a glass of wine and do some people-watching.

Saturday Pre-Dinner

Blagden Alley - Head over to Blagden Alley and grab a drink before dinner. Grab a drink at Tiger Fork, a modern Hong Kong restaurant or Calico, where you can get Adult Capri Suns.

Saturday Dinner

Amazonia - is a Peruvian restaurant. There are two restaurants in one. One for a la carte menu and another for a tasting menu. It's a seafood-forward menu. There is an option to order a whole fish and the fish is prepared in multiple ways. This is also a pisco bar, they have a ton of drinks that are pisco-based.

Sunday Brunch

Eastern Market - Walk off all the food and drinks you consumed this weekend and make your way over to Eastern Market. It's about a 20 minute walk, on a nice day, it will be a great walk as you stroll through the row houses. You may run into a Politian or two.

The Duck & Peach - You cant go wrong with the brunch options here. I have never had a bad meal at the Duck & Peach. Check out the Avocado toast and the duck fat home fries.

I'll let you shop for a little bit as you browse the vendors before you walk back to the hotel to check out before heading to the airport.

If these options don't appeal to you, there are plenty more options I would recommend.

I hope you leave DC with a full belly.
