For the adventurous at heart, the Bear Mountain Trail challenges with steep ascents to rewarding vistas. My go-to favorite hike is the Huckaby Trail which combines scenic views of the red rocks before descending down to the cool and verdant Oak Creek canyon, the trail head parking lot is never full, and location is under a ten-minute drive from Uptown which is convenient for a post-hike brunch.

Tips:

• Consider the season/weather: Red rock trails are perfect in spring but can be unforgiving in the summer months. Conversely, the West Fork Trail or other canyon trails are a perfect reprieve in the summer but can be dangerous during fall monsoons and icy in the winter.

• Water: Always bring more water than you think you need.

You might be surprised to learn that less than an hour outside Sedona is the heart of the Arizona wine region. Cottonwood, Jerome and Cornville nestled in the Verde Valley boast volcanic soils perfect for bold reds and refreshing whites. Explore the regions viticulture through the following:

Page Spring Cellars: A short 20-minute drive east of Sedona will take you to Page Spring Cellars, a winery dedicated to crafting delicious wines that capture the unique character of the Arizona landscape. A family-run establishment where sustainable practices meet a passion for creating high-quality wines. You can enjoy tasting flights and lunch from their relaxing patio.

• Sedona Memories Cafe: The best sandwiches, a must try! Their hours can be tricky as they are open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., but can close early when they run out of their delicious bread.
