Red Rocks

Hikes

Sedona is a hiker's paradise, offering trails that cater to all skill levels, each framing the breathtaking beauty of Arizona's desert landscape. From the iconic Cathedral Rock Trail, known for its stunning views and vortex energy, to the tranquility of the West Fork Trail, which meanders through lush canyons and streams, Sedona's trails invite exploration and connection with nature. The Bell Rock Pathway presents a less strenuous option, ideal for families and those seeking a leisurely hike with panoramic views. For the adventurous at heart, the Bear Mountain Trail challenges with steep ascents to rewarding vistas. My go-to favorite hike is the Huckaby Trail which combines scenic views of the red rocks before descending down to the cool and verdant Oak Creek canyon, the trail head parking lot is never full, and location is under a ten-minute drive from Uptown which is convenient for a post-hike brunch.

Tips:

  • Consider the season/weather: Red rock trails are perfect in spring but can be unforgiving in the summer months. Conversely, the West Fork Trail or other canyon trails are a perfect reprieve in the summer but can be dangerous during fall monsoons and icy in the winter.

  • Water: Always bring more water than you think you need.

Pink Jeep Tours to get off-the beaten path

Delve into the heart of Sedona's stunning landscapes with Pink Jeep Tours, where every journey is an invitation to experience the majestic red rocks, ancient ruins, and mystical energy vortexes through a lens of adventure and discovery. With tours ranging from the thrilling off-road escapades of Diamondback Gulch to the ancient whispers of the Honanki Heritage Site, Pink Jeep Tours crafts unforgettable moments, blending exhilarating exploration with insights into Sedona's rich history and natural beauty. Whether you're seeking the serene beauty of the Red Rock Range or the rugged adventures of Coyote Canyons, these tours offer a unique vantage point to witness the awe-inspiring vistas and delve into the secrets that lie within Sedona's legendary landscape.

Tips:

  • Times: Morning rides provide for great lighting, opportunity to see wildlife and less congested trails.

  • Check rugged level: Some trails are rated for more extreme rugged terrain (very bumpy ride) while others are mild rated for comfort, choose based on your preferences.

Sedona Helicopter Ride Experiences

Embarking on a helicopter ride in Sedona offers an unparalleled opportunity to witness the grandeur of Arizona's landscape from the skies. These tours provide a bird's-eye view of the majestic red rock formations, sprawling canyons, and hidden valleys that make Sedona a marvel of nature. The thrill of ascending over rugged terrain, combined with the pilot's narration of Sedona's rich geological and cultural history, makes for an unforgettable adventure. For the unparalleled viewing, Guidance Air provides the most scenic window seating configuration as well as more comprehensive adventure packages. For larger parties, Apex Air can accommodate up to 5 passengers at affordable rates.

Tips:

  • Times: Opt for tours in the earlier morning or later afternoon, these will provide the best lighting for dramatic landscapes and photographs.

  • Doors On or Off: Some tours can be doors-off for the ultimate in viewing experience.

  • Motion sickness: Consider taking pre-medication if prone to this.

Art

Tlaquepaque Village

Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village in Sedona, inspired by a traditional Mexican village, offers a unique shopping and cultural experience with its vine-covered stucco walls, cobblestone walkways, and arched entryways. This landmark destination, nestled beneath the shade of sycamores along Oak Creek, features over 50 specialty shops and galleries, showcasing a range of art from Western bronzes and ceramics to contemporary jewelry and fine art paintings.

Ancient Native Art

For a unique artistic experience, visit the Palatki Ruins, where you can see ancient petroglyphs and pictographs painted on the canyon walls. These works of art offer a glimpse into the lives of the people who lived in Sedona hundreds of years ago.

Take a Ceramics Class

The Sedona Arts Center has multiple weekly classes with the most popular being the ceramics offerings both for beginners and more advanced students at the guidance of celebrated local artists.

Attend an Art Festival

Sedona is home to a number of art and culture festivals throughout the year, the largest being the Sedona Arts Festival, Sedona Plein Air Festival and the Sedona International Film Festival.

Energy Vortexes & Healing

Sedona's vortexes are renowned energy centers that draw visitors from around the world, seeking spiritual renewal, healing, and inspiration. These natural sites, marked by their unique rock formations and the energy they emit, are considered gateways for prayer, meditation, and exploring one's inner self. Each vortex location offers a distinct experience.

Popular Vortex Sites:

  • Airport Mesa: Offers panoramic views and is known for its uplifting energy, magical at sunset.

  • Bell Rock Path: A moderate hike leading to a powerful vortex said to enhance creativity.

  • Cathedral Rock: Features a challenging climb but rewards with breathtaking views and a vortex with balancing energy.

  • Boynton Canyon: A longer hike with multiple vortexes said to promote emotional release and spiritual connection.

Vortex Yoga and Sound Healing

Studios in Sedona, like Aumbase, offer yoga or sound healing sessions specifically designed to tap into vortex energy. Yoga postures and breathing exercises can be particularly effective when combined with the vortex's uplifting or grounding energies. Sound healing with instruments like Tibetan singing bowls can create a deeply relaxing and restorative experience.

Vortex Rejuvenation Treatments Many spas in Sedona offer treatments that incorporate vortex energy. These might include massages with crystals or essential oils said to enhance the vortex's specific properties. My favorite are the signature offerings at Mii Amo, the Chakra Balancing service in particular was very restorative.
