The met

Times Square

Central intersection of the Theater district. Full of colorful billboards, shops, restaurant, and interesting people. Home of the famous Times Square New Year's Eve Ball drop and Father Duffy Square.

Tips:

  1. Costumed characters in Times Square expect a cash tip when taking a photo with them.

  2. Never take a free CD from an up-and-coming musician on the streets of Times Square. It's a scam, so avoid!

Tip: This museum takes approx 2-3 hours to go through completely.

TKTS Booth

Located in Duffy Square in the heart of Times Square, this booth is the best way to get discounted and affordable, last-minute, day-off tickets to Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. They have a wide selection and include hit shows.

Places to eat & drink

NYC food

Sardi's - Famous Broadway haunt that has the walls adorned with caricatures of the famous theater folk who patronize the restaurant. It has an English clubhouse feel and the menu changes seasonally, which makes it the perfect place to grab food or a drink before or after taking in a Broadway show.

Ellen's Stardust Diner - Home of the world famous singing servers, Ellen's is 1950's themed and located in the heart of the Theater District in Manhattan.

Tip: Ellen does not take reservations, so plan if you want to make a stop here.

Joe Allen - A Broadway institution since the 60, it's a classic neighborhood bistro. A perfect spot for a pre-or post-theater meal. The restaurant is decorated with posters of notorious Broadway flops.

Tip: Keep an eye out for your favorite Broadway stars, as many are regulars at Joe Allen.

Don't Tell Mama - World-famous entertainment venue that includes a restaurant, cabaret space and a piano bar. Stop by to listen to some fabulous local musicians and maybe even sing along!

Tip: This restaurant is open late and features an open mic where any audience member and sometimes even celebrities, can get up and sing to an excited crowd.

Lillie's Victorian Establishment - Laid-back Victorian-themed pub with simple but delicious food and unique cocktails. Perfectly situated in the Theater District.

Carmine's - Known for large sharing portions of Italian cuisine, this is the perfect spot for large groups. Located two blocks from Times Square, making it a convenient place for a nice meal between taking in the sights.

Westway Diner - Classic New York City diner with a diverse menu including breakfast specials, deli sandwiches, salads, burgers and more. Steps from many Broadway theaters, this is a tourist must.

Schnipper's - Casual eatery that serves sandwiches and salads. They have specialty milkshakes and ice cream floats. A great quick place to eat, especially with kids.

Pick A Bagel - Many locations, including midtown. Serving New York Bagels, omelets, coffee, soups and salads. This is a casual spot that opens early, 6:00am, so if you're looking for a bite to eat before hitting the pavement, this could be your spot.
