The main focus of my trip was to go big game fishing. I asked for a location on the east coast of the Baja Penninsula because I knew that the fishing in the Sea of Cortez is renowned for good fishing. I ended up in Loreto, which I found out upon arriving, is a national sea/marine preserve. That meant that they only allowed small local fishing boats, typically no longer than 20' with a 7' width. I tried going fishing one day, in one of these small open skiffs, and it was brutal and dangerous. I can understand that unless a travel agent is an avid angler, it would not be something that they would consider, that the area is a marine preserve. I was prepared to spend up to $4,000 for fishing charters during this vacation. I am glad that I did my usual direct marina booking of a charter, rather than booking through the travel agent. Had I booked my charter through an agent instead of directly with the captain of the charter boat, I could have ended up wasting thousands of dollars on this trip. My main focus for this trip, fishing, had to immediately change. I spent time viewing some museums and not much else. Loreto is not a place where I would recommend anyone spend any longer than 4 days maximum, because there is nothing to do there. Their tourism industry is only starting to get going and there is nothing to keep anyone's interest for any longer than 2 or 3 days. In fairness to Kazlyn, if I had booked this trip directly, I would have missed the fact that this is a marine preserve, and is not for any serious fisherman. I would also NOT recommend it for any divers because when I viewed the boats in the marina, none of them had dive platforms or dive ladders. I have experienced these types of boats for diving in the past, and they are not just awkward, but dangerous. Again, this is not something that any agent would be aware of, without diving experience and having actually seen the local equipment. Kazlyn did a good job of getting right after trying to find something for my vacation. She was eager and prompt in getting me options for Loreto hotels. I would consider using her service again.
