Curator’s statement
I recently conducted a site visit at the Chesterfield Mayfair in preparation for a group trip at the end of May 2024. This four-star property, originally built from a house in the 1600s, now houses 94 rooms and 14 suites. It is classically British in all the best ways, but the star of the Chesterfield is its staff - they are all warm and friendly and go above and beyond to ensure your trip is the best.

Arriving at the small and intimate Chesterfield Mayfair, I met George, the doorman. He quickly shuttled me over to Reception, made sure I was taken care of and arranged for a glass of wine while I managed all the paperwork of checking in. At the Chesterfield, introductions are made all around the room. They want to get to know you.
The decor is typically British. Off of the lobby, you will find a bar, serving food and drinks well into the evening. Entertainment is provided by a lovely piano player, accompanied by a singer some evenings. I thoroughly enjoyed a drink and nibbles in the bar; it was fantastic.
If you walk through the bar you will find a whimsical space where Afternoon Tea is served, with a nod toward children. The Chesterfield’s Tea received an Award of Excellence in 2023. Tea is served every day from 12:30 to 5:30.
On the other side of the lobby, you will find the hotel’s dining room. I did not experience the evening dinner service; however, I did utilize it for breakfast. I thought it was going to be a buffet, instead, I was greeted and led to a table to find it was a full a la carte menu breakfast (included as part of Fora Perks!). The food was delicious, service was very friendly, and on point. As I was sitting at my table, it became apparent that the Maitre' D’ knew the majority of the guests and was asking them about their families and their next stays, so this hotel looks like it has a high guest return rate.
I was able to see a deluxe room, a suite and a one-bedroom suite. The Classic category of rooms is the smallest. Guests may feel somewhat cramped in this space; however, if traveling light and only sleeping in the room, it would be just right. Superior rooms allow for more luggage and space. The named suites provide the most space and are found on each of the hotel’s five floors. There are some small steps (about five or six) on each floor when getting to the suites, so if your client has mobility issues, this may be a concern.
The Chesterfield Mayfair gets many return visitors who come year after year, either couples who attend the theater or families who visit London each summer. Some professional people use this as their base while in London. I liked that there was a sense of community in the hotel. Nicole DeMarchi, the Reception Manager who led my tour, explained that the hotel loves to help families by arranging connecting rooms or helping create bespoke itineraries for their London stay via their “Nanny program.”
Need to know
The Chesterfield Mayfair is a 4-star hotel that is great for families, couples and solo travelers who are exploring London. It’s location, about 0.2 km from the Green Park tube station, makes it a perfect base for getting around the city and finding great places to eat. I am looking forward to my return in May!
