Cavas Wine Lodge is located at the base of the snow-capped Andes Mountains and it was the first hotel in Mendoza dedicated completely to wine. A Relais & Chateaux property that just celebrated its 20th anniversary. The hotel consists of 18 adobe-style bungalows spread out through a 35-acre vineyard in the heart of Mendoza’s prime wine-growing region — Lujan de Cuyo. It's a short stroll under a vine-covered path to reach your villa and the ultimate spot for relaxation after a day of food and wine! Accommodation consists of Front Row Rooms, two Vineyard Villas and a larger two-bedroom Grand Villa.

Drawn to Mendoza for the wine (obviously), Cavas came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. While all the rooms boast breathtaking views, private plunge pools and roof decks, if you are looking for space, a Vineyard Villa is an outstanding choice. Vineyard villas have a separate living room with a couch, fireplace and bar table, a king-sized bedroom, double bathroom (two sinks, two toilets, two showers, yes really), double outdoor showers and Japanese-style jacuzzi, private plunge pool, outdoor eating and lounging area and a roof deck with a fireplace. Oh, plus a powder room. The villas are very private and are the perfect spot to enjoy a few days of relaxation and wine! Rooms and villas also have a wine fridge, mini fridge, a Nespresso machine and an instant hot water pot.

On-site restaurant and full-service spa make for a full experience. I highly recommend booking a bonardo bath! There is also a small main pool for those wanting something larger than the plunge pool at their room.

The hotel also hosts various themed dinners throughout the week, including a Tango Show and BBQ, a jazz cocktail evening or a cooking class for alternative dining options. Room service is also an option and there is a Terrace menu available for snacks and drinks to be served on your rooftop deck!

The hotel is set in the vineyard and transportation is needed to access any offsite activities and restaurants, of which there are many — especially at the vineyards (primarily serving lunch). There are also a number of Michelin Starred restaurants in the greater Mendoza area for those looking to experience its exploding food scene. Offsite activities throughout the region — including trips to the Uco Valley, hiking and rafting (and more) can be coordinated through the hotel. The hotel can also easily coordinate transportation (through Wine Safari) to nearby vineyards, restaurants and to/from MDZ (about 45 minutes away). We actually had the same driver for our entire stay at this undefined property.

Need to know

This is a perfect romantic spot for couples. Children over the age of 12 are welcome, but there are no onsite activities for kids. The Lujan de Cuyo region is fairly rural and many of the roads are not paved, so relying on outside transportation is a much easier option.
