Babymoon Cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas - Western Caribbean
Curator’s statement

In August of 2024, my husband and I took a seven-night Western Caribbean cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas for our babymoon! This Oasis-class ship offered the amenities we were looking for and always kept us busy the whole week! This is a ship we would sail on again, due to its size, dining options, pool deck and entertainment.

At the time of our cruise, Wonder of the Seas was sailing out of Port Canaveral, Florida. We flew in a day early to Orlando Airport (MCO) and then used LUXY Car Service for transportation to our hotel in Port Canaveral — about a 45-minute drive. There are many options in Port Canaveral/Cape Canaveral for hotels at all budget levels! We opted for the Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, simply because they were minutes from the port and they had the earliest check-in time and latest check-out time of hotels in the immediate area.

Our cruise boarded on a Sunday, and we had a check-in time of 11 am. From curb to the ship was about 10 minutes. We were staying in a suite, so there is a separate check-in area with no line. But from viewing the terminal overall, things looked like they were moving quickly and lines were not long. When we get on the ship, we love to get acclimated and walk around! We stopped at Park Cafe for a quick lunch, and by the time we got to our room, our luggage was already there as well! We even spent a little time at the pool, and starting on day one through the whole cruise, we never had a hard time finding chairs at the pool. For the first night, we dined in the main dining room and the service and food was great! We enjoyed the welcome show in the theater on the first night, it was a comedian. We always make a point to go to as many shows as we can! We love the theater productions, comedians and dancing. Even though it was quite late, we made ourselves stay up for the midnight balloon drop that took place on the first night of the cruise on the Promenade. It’s a fun time with live music, and I recommend it if you are ever on Wonder of the Seas!

The next day, we were at Royal Caribbean’s private island, Coco Cay. We have been to Coco Cay before, and it’s a great destination! No shortage of things to do, from food and drink, beaches, pools, a waterpark and an adults-only area. This time, we opted for the adults-only area called Hideaway Beach. There is a cost for this area, it was around $30 USD per person. There is a separate pool, private beach, dining locations and bars. We spent several hours there and really enjoyed it. That evening, we indulged in specialty dining at Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen. It’s in a great location in the Central Park neighborhood on the ship.

The following day was our first day at sea, which is always a nice day to take it slow. We got in a good morning workout followed by protein shakes at the Vitality Cafe (near the gym) and then we had a late brunch at the Mason Jar (specialty restaurant). I had never tried there before, and it was a really fun experience with way too much food! Might sound odd, but if you ever dine there, try the deviled eggs as an appetizer!

The following days were followed by three ports in a row: Cozumel, Roatan (Honduras) and Costa Maya. In Cozumel, we did a cooking class at Playa Mia Beach. When you book the excursion, they have a shuttle that brings you there (about a 10-minute drive) followed by a really fun cooking class with an experienced chef! We made our own lunch, including an appetizer, main dish and dessert! During the class, they served us beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Then our lunch was brought out to us as we dined under the massive tent they have near the beach. Once we finished lunch, we had free time to enjoy the pools and beach before we caught the shuttle back to the ship. That evening, we dined at one of my favorite restaurants on Oasis Class ships - Coastal Kitchen. It is for suite guests only, but if you ever book a suite I recommend going there at least once or twice!

In Roatan, which is an island off the coast of Honduras, we did a snorkeling excursion. I had never been to Roatan before and I was pleasantly surprised by this port! It wasn’t the best snorkeling I had ever done, but our tour guide was great and the two guides in the water with us showed us the best spots. We got to see many colorful fish, lobster and even a barracuda! After snorkeling, we were brought back to shore, where we enjoyed a shrimp boil lunch. On the way back to the ship, we also got a chance to stop at the local chocolate factory.

Our last port day was in Costa Maya, Mexico. We had an excursion scheduled, called the Mayan Healing Ritual. As a side note, before booking all my excursions for this trip, I read all the information to make sure that since I was pregnant, I would still be able to participate. Unfortunately, on the day of the excursion, I was told by staff in the port that I could not participate. I was very disappointed, but I did talk to Royal Caribbean to advise them to be sure to add that to the important information regarding the excursion. I did ask if I could just take part in a portion of the excursion, but we were told no. (The ritual included going into a sweat lodge.) But it definitely did not ruin our day! We were 100% refunded, and then we purchased tickets into the aviary, which is right in the port. We really enjoyed it, you can walk through at your own pace and also get a beautiful overhead view of the port and see your ship in the distance! For dinner, we went to Hooked Seafood (specialty dining). I’ve heard/seen a lot of mixed reviews on Hooked, but I recommend you try it for yourself! I’m glad we did! It was our favorite meal of the trip. Lobster, shrimp, crab cakes and more!

Our final full day was at sea, where we enjoyed a relaxing breakfast (I highly recommend Johnny Rocket’s for breakfast — it’s a hidden gem with good food, and there’s no extra upcharge for breakfast!) I went for a long walk on the outdoor track which is connected to the gym and accessible from around the ship, and of course, lots of great time in the sun by the pool! Though we enjoyed many shows on the cruise, I must mention the Aqua Show! It is an outdoor theater on the back of the ship, with dancing, high diving and aerial acts. Very entertaining, but beware — if you sit close to the front, you may get wet!

Other entertainment we enjoyed included the ice skating production, shows in the comedy hall and “Voices” and “The Effectors” in the main theater.

There is so much to do on a Royal Caribbean cruise — and I can help you plan as much or as little as you’d like. From dining, room choice, excursions, onboard entertainment, the casino and more… I’m here to help you find your perfect vacation!

Need to know

If you are thinking about booking your babymoon on a cruise, please reach out to me! I did extensive research before ours, and I would love to help you plan the perfect getaway. Keep in mind, you can’t cruise once you hit 24 weeks. So, be sure to cross-reference your calendar so you make sure you won’t be cruising past 23 weeks. I’m happy to find excursions that will be both enjoyable to you and safe. I would recommend a cruise to any couple for a babymoon, as it was relaxing, and you could do as much or as little as you want to! (And did I mention all the delicious food?)
