Multi-Generational Cruise on Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas
Curator’s statement

A Memorable Multi-Generational Voyage: Our Adventure on Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas

In late June, my fiance, our four children, my mother and I took a multi-generational family trip on Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas, departing from Miami. Royal Caribbean specializes in multi-gen trips and was the perfect fit for our group, ranging from grandparents, teens and energetic elementary-aged children. With a thoughtfully planned itinerary including stops at Perfect Day at Coco Cay and Baha Bay at Baha Mar in the Bahamas, I highly recommend Freedom of the Seas Bahamas itineraries to my clients.

Setting Sail from Miami

Not being risk-takers, we arrived in Miami about 36 hours prior to embarkation. We stayed in Coconut Grove, which was close to the port and was perfect for exploring in the short time we had. Don’t miss Monty’s, Coral Bagel and all of the iguanas and peacocks! Once onboard, we checked into three rooms — a surprisingly spacious promenade-view room and two connecting balcony rooms — ensuring that we could enjoy both privacy and shared moments throughout our journey.

Adventures Await at Perfect Day at Coco Cay

Our first port of call was Perfect Day at Coco Cay, Royal Caribbean's private island paradise in the Bahamas. Here, surrounded by turquoise waters and powdery white sands, we found endless opportunities for adventure and relaxation. Our children were excited to explore Splashaway Bay, a lively water park with thrilling slides and interactive fountains. Meanwhile, the adults enjoyed peaceful moments at Oasis Lagoon, the Caribbean's largest freshwater pool, sipping tropical drinks and soaking up the sun.

For those seeking more adrenaline-fueled activities, try the Thrill Waterpark, where daring slides like Daredevil's Tower and exhilarating wave pools provide excitement for guests of all ages. Beach chairs and umbrellas on beautiful white sandy beaches can be found all over the island, and along with most food are included with cruise fare.

Exploring Baha Bay at Baha Mar

Continuing our adventure, we headed to Baha Bay at Baha Mar, a newly developed resort on Nassau's Cable Beach. Here, we immersed ourselves in the vibrant culture and Caribbean charm of the Bahamas. Baha Bay's expansive water park, with thrilling slides and interactive splash zones, captivated our children. We all enjoyed the beach, lazy river, and giant wave pool, which features a beautiful white sand beach.

Unforgettable Moments Onboard Freedom of the Seas

Back on the ship, Freedom of the Seas continued to impress with its array of activities and entertainment. From Broadway-style shows and ice skating to a mini-golf course, flowrider and slides, there was always something to keep us entertained. We bonded over dinner each night in the main dining room and loved the staff and crew members who took care of us throughout our journey.

Need to know

I recommend Freedom of the Seas Caribbean sailings for families, especially for multi-generational trips. There is so much to do both onboard and in port, and the nature of cruise ships allows everyone to set their own pace. Couples can leave their littles at the kids club knowing they will have a great time (our kids begged us to go) and have a date night. Older kids and teens have their own club or can have their run around the ship, and grandparents can relax or spend time with the family. And while some people find the main dining room old-school, the act of having family dinner each night (that someone else planned and cooked!) is a major plus for big families.
