Hotel Spotlight: 5 Reasons to Stay at The Grand Hotel Victoria

• Breakfast: As previously mentioned, the breakfast is extraordinary. Imagine starting your day with freshly squeezed orange juice, champagne and eggs cooked to perfection. Add in an array of fresh fruit, cheeses, cured meats and a daily rotation of pastries so delicious, you’ll be dreaming of this breakfast for years to come.

• The view: Lake Como is absolutely stunning, but stepping outside the Grand Hotel Victoria feels like stepping into a dream. You’ll be met with a breathtaking waterfront promenade, where the gentle sound of waves rippling against the shore sets the scene for a peaceful morning saunter. Walk the path to the left for a quiet stroll to take in more of the beautiful lake, or to the right for a bit more lively route to the town center.

• The spa: Treat yourself to a relaxing experience at the Erre Spa. When you make a reservation of at least 80 minutes or more, you’ll have access to the aromatherapy pool, jacuzzis and fire and ice rooms. If you don’t want to go for the Signature package (which includes aromatherapy, massage and facial), I highly recommend at least booking a deep tissue massage. Bring your swimsuit so you can take full advantage of the wellness area after your treatment. My personal favorite was a dip in the jacuzzi, but the ice room was a unique way to invigorate my muscles. Take your time, breathe in and immerse yourself in tranquility.

• The location: You’re just an 8-minute walk to the ferry. Be ready to explore the best of Lake Como, ranging from shopping in Bellagio to romantic strolls in Varenna and visits to Villa del Balbianello in Lenno. Plus, the charming Menaggio town center — filled with bars, cozy cafes, boutique shops and gelato bars — is just a few steps up the road. For the best homemade pasta, Osteria Il Pozzo is the place to go. The orecchiette and ravioli were some of the most heavenly dishes we had the whole trip. Reservations fill up quickly though, so plan ahead! Be sure to save room in your luggage for wine, limoncello and pasta from La Bottega Del Vino Di Menaggio. For a refreshing Aperol Spritz, check out Pesin and Cafe Del Pess. Lastly, stop by Lavanda Del Lago for soothing lavender lotions and room sprays before heading back to the hotel. As a bonus, located right next door to the hotel is Il Gabbiano, home to decadent gelato of all flavors (but coffee is always a top choice!)

• The staff: The staff here truly redefines five-star service. From the seamless check-in — where our luggage was whisked away to our room the moment we stepped out of our vehicle — to a welcome glass of Prosecco, their warm hospitality made every moment effortless. It was the best hotel experience I’ve ever had — a level of service that leaves a lasting impression.
