The hotel, which has been around since 1908, still maintains its convivial and traditional atmosphere, as evident by the Union Jack flag that still flies above its courtyard entrance. The cocktail bar is as refined as ever. Dukes is not a large hotel. If your preference is for spacious multi-room apartments with enormous flat-screen TVs and endless hallways that require a trail of crumbs to find your way back to the bathroom, then Dukes may not be the right choice for you. However, the rooms at Dukes are designed to be more than just a place to sleep. With luxurious marble bathrooms and incredibly comfortable beds, they are meant to be lived in, offering the perfect setting for indulging in cold champagne and hot showers. Located in the basement, Dukes Bar is famous for being the place where Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond, decided on the secret agent's favorite drink. It's quite possible that the bar's white-jacketed bartenders have even served Fleming himself. The hotel's restaurant, GBR, which stands for Great British Restaurant, allows diners to choose any dish in either a starter or main course size. Nowadays, it's rare to find hotels that offer true freedom to their guests, with hidden charges and strict check-out times becoming the norm. Dukes, however, is a delightful exception, and perhaps one of the last remaining. Situated in the serene St James's area, just off Piccadilly, Dukes is a quintessential old-school hotel in the best possible way. The martinis served in its bar are legendary, making it a favorite spot of the late Ian Fleming, the author of the James Bond novels. The ground-floor restaurant, GBR, offers traditional dishes with a modern twist, including a daily pie. Additionally, Dukes has a delightful garden where guests can enjoy cognac and cigars in collaboration with Remy Martin. The rooms are elegant and luxurious, featuring marble bathrooms and high-quality bath products from Penhaligon's. For those who wish to explore the nearby Green Park or Hyde Park, Dukes offers the option to pre-order a picnic hamper. Furthermore, room service is available 24 hours a day.
