Tour of the Park Hyatt Vienna
Curator’s statement

The Park Hyatt Vienna is a gorgeous, luxury hotel located in the historic heart of Vienna! The hotel occupies a beautifully restored 19th-century building that was once home to the Austrian National Bank. The Park Hyatt has preserved much of the original architecture and fixtures, offering guests a truly authentic experience blended with modern luxury. The hotel is ideally located in Vienna’s First District, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s within walking distance to Vienna’s most famous treasures like St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera) and the National Library, which makes it an ideal place to stay on your next visit!

The rooms

The Park Hyatt Vienna offers a range of accommodations, featuring 143 rooms ranging from standard rooms to various sized suites. There are also numerous connecting room options for families or groups who need additional space.

My favorite feature is the striking oversized wall art in every room. We were fascinated to learn the wall hangings are enlarged reproductions of classic Viennese brooches designed by Carl Otto Czeschka. You can view the originals at the MAK museum.

The Deluxe Suite

We had the pleasure of staying in the Deluxe Suite, which featured a living area separate from the bedroom. There was plenty of space to relax with a comfortable couch and chairs. The bedroom offered a massive, incredibly comfortable king-sized bed and a nice, squishy lounge chair.

The suite also featured a massive walk-in changing room with two closets and several shelves, which gave us plenty of space to hang up our clothes.

The decor was very ornate, with dark, rich wood and a gorgeous red accent wall in the bedroom. The high ceilings gave it a grand, stately feel. However, it is worth noting that our first-floor location had a very limited view from the window.

The standard room

During my stay, I had an opportunity to tour one of the hotel’s standard rooms. While of course smaller than the suite, this room was more suited to my taste.

In contrast to the suite’s stately decor, the standard room offered a very airy and bright atmosphere. The vaulted ceilings added a lot of character to the room. The huge windows let in plenty of natural sunlight and an impressive view overlooking the square. This room also features a huge king-sized bed, but there is still plenty of space to move around.

Eat and drink

The Bank Brasserie

The Bank Brasserie serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s located inside what was once the bank’s cashier hall. It is the most beautiful space in the hotel. The soaring ceilings are original to the bank, as are the lamps and clocks.

Breakfast was an included perk we enjoyed every day. It was fantastic! The buffet was filled with fresh fruits, pastries, breads and local cheeses. We also ordered from the a-la carte menu. The truffled scrambled eggs are incredible and I ate what might be the best eggs benedict I’ve ever had! There is also self-serve wine, champagne and fresh orange juice, if you like a mimosa to get your day started!

The restaurant also serves lunch and dinner from its open kitchen, so you can watch the chefs prepare your meal, which really adds to the experience.

The Bank Bar

The bar is located right next to the restaurant and is a stunning space to sip on a premium cocktail. We visited after a night at the opera and were thrilled to find the artisanal cocktails were delicious! The drink menu is all finance themed with drinks like the ‘Hyperinflation’ and the ‘Consumer Index’ which is a whimsical, fun touch.

Additional dining

Café am Hof: A café offering traditional Viennese coffee and light breakfast pastries and snacks. During the warmer months, there is an outdoor seating area that’s popular with locals, as well.

The lounge: This is another beautiful space to enjoy afternoon tea or pre-dinner drinks. It serves light pastries and a selection of wines and champagnes.

Living room fumoir: This is an intimate cigar lounge that serves high-end liquors. It’s perfect if you’re a single-malt whiskey fan!

Pool and spa

The pool

The pool is the most unique feature of the Park Hyatt Vienna and my favorite spot on the whole property. It’s located inside the bank’s old vault (the original door is still there!) which is such a creative use of space.

My only disappointment is that the pool was not heated during my October stay and the water was a bit too chilly to stay in for long.

The Aranay Spa:

The spa is located right next to the pool and guests get free access to the relaxation area. It’s a beautiful, tranquil space. There is a dry sauna, a steam room and an ice shower. We made good use of the dry sauna to warm up from our chilly dip in the pool! You can also purchase spa treatments, which include massages, facials and aromatherapy.

Fitness center

This is the most zen fitness center I’ve ever stepped foot in! Even the gym fits the vibe of the historic hotel with dark hardwood floors and tranquil music playing. It overlooks the vault pool and has a good selection of cardio equipment, including ellipticals, treadmills, stationary bikes and a Peloton. There are also resistance machines and free weights.

Event rooms

In another amazing reimagination of the old bank, the executive offices were transformed into beautiful event rooms. The property features the Grand Salon (main ballroom) and several smaller rooms that can be used for anything from weddings to business events. In the center is a beautiful space that would be perfect for a cocktail hour.

One of the coolest features: there’s a screen hidden behind the tapestry covering the back wall of the Grand Salon. Flat-screen TVs are hidden inside the marble fireplaces that can be unveiled for business meetings and presentations!

Glass elevator

This unique feature deserves its own mention. The stunning, contemporary glass elevator is a focal point of the hotel’s interior. It’s in the center of the building’s grand staircase and its all-glass design gives you a glimpse inside the hotel’s stunning historic architecture.

Need to know

The service at the Park Hyatt Vienna was exemplary from the moment we arrived at the front door! A top-hatted attendant promptly greeted us, helped unload our luggage and quickly ushered our bags to our room. In our suite, we were welcomed with a delightful bowl of fresh fruit, delicious chocolate truffles and a thoughtful welcome letter.

Throughout our stay, the staff was incredibly helpful and quick to answer any questions and provided insightful local recommendations. Overall, the level of service was first-class.
