Getting There and Getting Around:
Ischia is conveniently located just a 45-minute ferry ride from Naples, making it an accessible escape from the mainland. Once on the island, the best way to explore is by foot or by renting a scooter, as the buses can be crowded and unreliable. However, be prepared for the occasional adventure, as the island's winding roads and picturesque alleys add to the charm.
Explore Forio:
Nestled on the western side of the island, Forio is a charming town that exudes a laid-back vibe and authentic Ischian character. Stroll through the narrow streets lined with colorful houses, quaint shops and lively piazzas where locals gather to socialize and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Forio's main square, Piazza Santi Vito e Modesto, is a vibrant hub surrounded by cafes and restaurants, making it the perfect spot to people-watch while savoring a refreshing granita or a strong espresso. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the town's iconic Chiesa del Soccorso, a beautiful church perched on a rocky promontory, offering stunning views of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Forio is also home to several beaches, including the popular Chiaia Beach, where you can bask in the sun, swim in the crystal-clear waters or indulge in fresh seafood at one of the beachside restaurants.
Where to Stay:
For a truly immersive and sustainable stay, book a room at the Botania Relais & Spa. This stunning hotel not only offers comfort and elegance but also prioritizes farm-to-table dining. With an organic farm on the property, 75% of the ingredients used in their three on-site restaurants are grown right there, ensuring the freshest and most flavorful dishes. Start your day with a delectable breakfast featuring freshly baked breads, pastries, jams, pizza, pasta and omelets made with vegetables straight from the garden. Don't miss the opportunity to dine at Cucina di Nonna Mari, or "Grandma's Kitchen," where you can either order your desired dishes or let the chef surprise you with traditional family recipes passed down through generations. The hotel also offers unique experiences like cooking classes, picnics around the property, cocktail shows and private romantic dinners, making it a truly unforgettable stay.
