Curator’s statement
My family and I spent a late summer weekend at the iconic Hotel del Coronado - a hotel I had heard rumblings about for years but had yet to experience firsthand. Almost immediately, I understood the attraction - the resort consists of three unique properties, with something for every type of traveler. The original hotel dates to 1885, and when I call this place an American treasure - it's not just because Alexander Graham Bell installed the first telephones here or because Thomas Edison lit the first Christmas tree. It is because something about this place feels like home.

Affectionately called The Del, this gorgeous hotel offers traditional Victorian rooms, updated modern suites, and even 1, 2 and 3 bedroom condos for larger groups. There is a wide variety of dining options, from delectable seafood fine dining to take out pizza (hello, family beach pizza picnic!), to the super famous weekend brunch! From about 3pm on, you can find live music somewhere on property.
Families of all ages and sizes are sprawled out across the green lawns, the vast beachfront, pools, or walking the waterfront path. There is even a kids club for ages 5+ that focuses on marine education and of course, fun! Looking for an active vacation? Try a surf lesson on site with a pro. We enjoyed a stunning sunset smores roast - the perfect end to a day at The Del!
The Hotel del Coronado is a true piece of history and in fact, you can take a walking audio tour of the property. There is so much to discover here - it is the perfect family beach destination.
Need to know
As much as I enjoyed this property for its family-friendly assets, there is something here for any type of travel group. The Shore House is perfect for a group getaway, while the Beach Village is exactly where I would send a multi-generational family get together! If you are a history buff, you'll love the original Hotel del Coronado building. A travel advisor can help you find the best spot for whatever trip you are planning... plus, amazing perks!
