As a travel advisor but mostly as a local, one of the best tips I can offer for traveling in Sardinia is this: be sure to try the incredible variety of local cheeses! Each one tells a story of our island’s rich traditions and unique flavors. Sardinia's cheese-making tradition dates back over 3,500 years to the Nuragic civilization, with techniques passed down through generations. Rooted in the island’s culture, artisanal producers use traditional methods to craft unique cheeses, reflecting Sardinia’s rich heritage, craftsmanship and community spirit. Sardinian cheeses are celebrated for their unique flavors, shaped by the island’s terroir and artisanal methods. Pecorino, a sheep’s milk cheese, ranges from sharp aged varieties to mild young ones. Casu marzu, or "maggot cheese," is a bold delicacy, while creamy ricotta stars in desserts like honey-drizzled *sebadas*.
