Curator’s statement
Passalacqua Lake Como is a luxurious boutique hotel nestled on the shores of Lake Como, steeped in history and charm. It’s the jewel in the crown of the three hotels owned by the De Santis family. Originally an 18th-century villa, the property has been meticulously restored. Offering an intimate and exclusive experience for guests seeking tranquility and elegance. With its lush gardens, breathtaking views and personalized service, Passalacqua offers a secluded retreat that embodies the essence of Italian luxury. Passalacqua, together with fellow properties Grand Hotel Tremezzo and Sheraton Lake Como, has been owned so far by the De Santis family. Meta SPA’s key figure (Meta is the name of the company which backs up the hotels’ business) is Valentina De Santis, the company’s CEO. She has even been nominated Best Hotelier Of The Year 2022 by the very well-known Virtuoso network.

Location
Passalacqua is located in Moltrasio, a quaint town on the western shore of Lake Como, just a short drive from the city of Como. The hotel’s secluded setting offers a peaceful atmosphere, while still providing easy access to explore the lake and nearby attractions. If you’re going there by car, just be careful about Google Maps indications. Streets are very narrow and it’s very easy to get distracted and take the wrong way. It is not easy, though to change direction in that case, because of lack of space.
Rooms
12 rooms and 12 deliciously opulent suites. 24 rooms in total.
Hotel's layout
The 24 rooms and suites are located in the main villa and several guesthouses on the property. Each room has its own unique design, featuring luxurious furnishings, high ceilings and a mix of classic and modern decor. The hotel also boasts expansive gardens, terraces with stunning lake views and a private dock for direct lake access.
Food
La Double J: Casual outdoor lunches with light Italian dishes.
Viviana Varese’s chef restaurant: For Chef Viviana Varese, "alta cucina di casa" means more than just creating excellent dishes. It's about being there for you all day, to delight, teach, comfort and amaze. Dinner can be held on the terrace or inside in the Sala Ovale.
Bar: Negroni, spritz, dry Martini or champagne? Nestled in the delightfully cultured, old-school bar, down by the pool, or outside on the terrace? Why not try all three, evening after evening?
Wellness
Spa: Combining Como's country charm with a hint of opulent mystery, the lounge and treatment rooms evoke a bygone era of travel and relaxation. However, the most surprising aspect of Passalacqua's spa is hidden underground.
Sport
A fitness area is available for guests, equipped with modern exercise machines. The hotel also offers yoga classes and personal training sessions in the gardens, providing a perfect way to stay active while enjoying the natural surroundings. A special tennis court and a bocce ground are available on the hotel premises, too.
Pros
The hotel offers an intimate and exclusive experience, with personalized service and attention to detail.
The setting is tranquil and picturesque, providing a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
The rooms are exquisitely decorated, combining historical elegance with modern luxury.
Cons
Passalacqua is a smaller property with fewer rooms and amenities than some larger luxury hotels, which might limit the variety of on-site activities.
The secluded location, while peaceful, may require a car or boat to access nearby towns and attractions.
Need to know
Passalacqua Lake Como is my favorite hotel in the area. It’s a hidden gem that shines brightly. It’s beautiful, with every detail meticulously curated, offering a feast for the eyes. The color harmony is flawless. Passalacqua topped the list of the 50 Best Hotels in the World, and I’m not surprised at all. Once again, Valentina De Santis nailed it!
