A Destination Wedding in Marrakech
Curator’s statement

In March 2024, I had the pleasure of attending a destination wedding in Marrakech, and it was an experience like no other! As someone who prides themselves on being a true enthusiast of destination weddings — I've even had the joy of planning my own and helped organize a few for friends — this three-day weekend in Marrakech exceeded all expectations.

Marrakech is a city that effortlessly blends exotic charm, rich culture, breathtaking landscapes and opulent palaces, making it the perfect setting for a celebration of love.

LOCATION

Just a quick 20-minute drive south from Menara Airport, you'll find yourself at the welcoming doorstep of the resort, ensuring a smooth transition from your flight. While taxis are readily available upon arrival, I'd suggest arranging transportation directly with the hotel in advance for added convenience.

Tucked away amid Marrakech's enchanting landscapes, the Fairmont Royal Palm Marrakech is nestled amid lush greenery, framed by the breathtaking backdrop of the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas Mountains. Whether you're longing for moments of relaxation, exciting recreation or envisioning Marrakech as your destination wedding location, this hotel has everything you need. From pampering sessions at the spa to tee-offs at the 18-hole golf course, fun-filled activities at the Kids Club, matches on the tennis courts, dips in the sprawling outdoor pools and even exploring the organic farm, there's something for everyone to enjoy right here on the hotel grounds.

Disclaimer: I was there for only 3 days and did not have enough time to explore all the recreation facilities.

ROOMS

At the Fairmont Royal Palm Marrakech, you're in for a treat with a variety of room and suite choices available, including private villas where you'll be pampered by your own dedicated butler. With personal pools and Hammams at your disposal, each detail is crafted to make your stay uniquely tailored to your preferences.

Regardless of your choice, all guest rooms offer 24-hour room service, complimentary Wi-Fi and luxurious bath amenities. Plus, upon arrival, you're greeted with a delightful assortment of complimentary fruit and bottled water, setting the tone for a truly indulgent experience.

During my stay, I opted for the Junior Suite (Atlas View). It's a spacious 86 sq'm sanctuary boasting a large terrace that overlooks the lush golf course and showcases stunning views of the majestic Atlas Mountains. Decorated with elegant furnishings and plush bedding, the suite seamlessly blends contemporary comforts with traditional Moroccan design elements.

One of the highlights for me was the bathroom — a sanctuary in its own right. Featuring a separate shower area with soothing rain showers, a chic standalone bathtub and a generous dressing area complete with walk-in closets and drawers, every detail exudes luxury. And of course, the complimentary hairdryer and refreshing bath amenities added an extra touch of indulgence.

Even with the hotel at full occupancy that weekend, I was pleasantly surprised by the promptness of the room service. Within just 20 minutes of placing my order for a sandwich and a drink, my meal was delivered straight to my door, ensuring I could savor every moment of relaxation without delay. To top it off, the complimentary turn-down service provided each evening was a thoughtful gesture that made returning to my room after a day of exploring feel like coming home to a haven of comfort and serenity.

RESTAURANTS

Indulge your taste buds at the Fairmont Royal Palm Marrakech, where dining options cater to every palate and occasion. Start your day with an international feast at the all-day dining restaurant, offering both buffet and à la carte breakfast options. For lunch and dinner, choose from a tempting selection of à la carte dishes at various venues, including a Middle Eastern restaurant, an alfresco Mediterranean-style spot with poolside views and an international eatery nestled within the hotel's own country club.

As part of the wedding celebrations, the pre-wedding dinner experience at The Caravane international restaurant was nothing short of spectacular. Surrounded by the vibrant energy of guests, we savored a sumptuous Mediterranean buffet while being entertained by a live band, mesmerizing belly dancers, and skilled fire jugglers.

The wedding ceremony followed the next day amid the lush gardens with majestic mountain views. Afterwards, we were enveloped in the warmth of Moroccan hospitality as we all celebrated indoors in a reception venue capable of accommodating up to 150 guests. It was an unforgettable celebration of love and culture.

THINGS TO DO IN MARRAKECH

On Saturday morning, I started my adventure at the iconic Jemaa el-Fnaa square, where I was swept away by the lively atmosphere and captivating street performances. Then, we wandered through the bustling Souk Semmarine, where we were able to source and haggle for unique souvenirs and antiques to commemorate this trip.

While my schedule didn't allow for these adventures, here are some other things to do in Marrakech.

Consider starting your day with a breathtaking Hot Air Balloon Breakfast, offering panoramic views of the city and surrounding landscapes.

For a culinary delight, indulge in a traditional Moroccan meal at any of the restaurants in the Atlas Mountains amid stunning natural scenery. If you're craving adventure, embark on an Agafay Desert Tour and Experience, where you can ride camels, explore desert landscapes, and witness mesmerizing sunsets.

And for the ultimate relaxation, treat yourself to a traditional Moroccan Hammam experience, rejuvenating both body and soul.

Need to know

I recommend the Fairmont Royal Palm Marrakech as it offers the perfect option for discerning travelers seeking opulence and tranquility in the heart of Marrakech. It also serves as an exquisite location for those considering a destination wedding in Marrakech. My three-day visit barely scratched the surface, which is why I suggest allocating at least 4-5 nights to fully immerse yourself in the rich Berber culture and uncover all the wonders this city has to offer.

While exploring, be sure to pick up some locally made organic Argan oil and traditional Moroccan tea as souvenirs.
