South Africa's Secret Wine Country
Curator’s statement

You would never guess that South Africa has such an amazing wine country. I had the most enjoyable experience visiting the wineries. Not only are the wines delicious, but the wineries themselves have the most beautiful views. Don't miss the Pinotage, it’s the region's specialty similar to a Pinot Noir but even more delicious!

The Wine Tram is a great way to get around and to see the scenic areas of Paarl and Franschhoek. The tram drops you off and picks you back up in about an hour. We had plenty of time to wine taste and explore each winery. Fairview Wine and Cheese Fairview is one of the best wineries I have ever been to! Not only was the wine great, but we also enjoyed a great meal at the Goatshed and cheese tasting. You cannot miss visiting the Goats and the unique Goat Tower. Fairview also has a plant-based cheese selection. You can also checkout the deli and bakery during your visit.

Need to know

A winery you must visit is the Spice Route and the Cape Town Brewing Company. They are right next to each other so you can easily visit both. South Africa does not produce a lot of beer, so this brewery is pretty special and beer tasty is a change after all the wine tastings. You can also tour the brewery as well. The Spice Routs has beautiful views and so much to explore, including chocolate tasting (do not miss!) Biltong tasting (similar to beef jerky) glass blowing and some unique shops to browse in. You’ll need at least half a day to explore!
